IMF Credit outstanding across the SAARC Countries

Pakistan holds the largest outstanding IMF credit among SAARC countries at USD 7.88 billion, accounting for more than half of the region’s total outstanding IMF credit. Bangladesh follows with USD 2.87 billion, while Sri Lanka has USD 2.19 billion outstanding. Together, these three countries account for the vast majority of IMF credit currently outstanding across the region.

The wide gap highlights the different levels of dependence on IMF financing across South Asia. Pakistan’s outstanding balance is nearly 2.7 times Bangladesh’s and more than 3.5 times Sri Lanka’s, while Nepal has a relatively small balance of USD 0.41 billion. India and Bhutan have no outstanding IMF credit, indicating no current repayment exposure to the Fund.
