அமெரிக்க ரம்ப் நிர்வாகத்தின் உயர்மட்ட அதிகாரிகள் அண்மையில் மீண்டும் ஆரம்பித்த யேமன் போர்த்திட்டத்தை வெளியார் ஒருவருக்கு தவறுதலாக பரிமாறியதாக செய்திகள் வெளிவந்துள்ளன.

ஊடக உலகம் முழுமையிலும் இச் செய்தி பரபரப்பை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது.இந்த வெளியார் `அத்திலாந்திக்` எனும்  சஞ்சிகை சார்ந்த தலைமைப் பத்திரிகையாளர் ஆவார்.

காசா போர் நிறுத்தத்தை ஒருதலைப் பட்சமாக மீறி மீண்டும் முழு அளவிலான போரை இஸ்ரேல் ஆரம்பித்ததற்குப் பதிலடியாக, செங்கடலில் பயணிக்கும் இஸ்ரேல் கப்பல்கள் மீது மீண்டும் தாக்குதல் தொடுப்போம் என யேமன் ஹுத்தி போராளிகள் அறிவித்தனர்.

இதிலிருந்து இஸ்ரேலைப் பாதுகாக்கும் பொருட்டு ஹுத்தி போராளிகளுக்கு எதிராக இராணுவத் தாக்குதலைத் தொடுக்க வெள்ளை விடுதி அதிகாரிகள் ஆலோசனைக் கூட்டம் ஒன்றை நடத்தினர்.

 ஜனாதிபதியின் மிக நெருங்கிய வட்டாரத்தினருள் இரகசிய குழுநிலை உரையாடலுக்காக அமைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும்,  Signal chat இரகசிய பாதுகாப்பு முறையிலான உரையாடலாக அமைந்திருந்தது. 

இந்த உரையாடல் 'messaging group` / குழுவில் The Atlantic's editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg உள்ளடக்கப்பட்டிருந்ததை வெள்ளை விடுதி  கவனிக்கத் தவறி அவருக்கும் கூட்ட அழைப்பு அனுப்பி போர்த்திட்டங்களைப் பரிமாறிக் கொண்டது!

மார்ச் மாதம் 13 திகதி எதிர்பாராதவிதமாக தனக்கு இந்த திரைமறைவு இரகசியக் கூட்டத்தில் இருந்து தகவல்  வந்ததாக Jeffrey Goldberg தனது The Atlantic பத்திரிகையில் தகவல் வெளியிட்டு கருத்துரைத்துள்ளார்.

Top Trump administration officials mistakenly disclosed war plans in a messaging group that included a journalist shortly before the U.S. attacked Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis, the White House said on Monday, following a first-hand account by The Atlantic.

Democratic lawmakers swiftly blasted the misstep, saying it was a breach of U.S. national security and a violation of law that must be investigated by Congress.

The Atlantic's editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg said in a report on Monday that he was unexpectedly invited on March 13 to an encrypted chat group on the Signal messaging app called the "Houthi PC small group." In the group, national security adviser Mike Waltz tasked his deputy Alex Wong with setting up a "tiger team" to coordinate U.S. action against the Houthis.

National Security Council spokesperson Brian Hughes said the chat group appeared to be authentic.

U.S. President Donald Trump launched an ongoing campaign of large-scale military strikes against Yemen's Houthis on March 15 over the group's attacks against Red Sea shipping, and he warned Iran, the Houthis' main backer, that it needed to immediately halt support for the group.

Hours before those attacks started, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth posted operational details about the plan in the messaging group, "including information about targets, weapons the U.S. would be deploying, and attack sequencing," Goldberg said. His report omitted the details but Goldberg termed it a "shockingly reckless" use of a Signal chat.

Accounts that appeared to represent Vice President JD Vance, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, and senior National Security Council officials were assembled in the chat group, Goldberg wrote.

Joe Kent, Trump's nominee for National Counterterrorism Center director, was apparently on the Signal chain despite not yet being Senate-confirmed.

Trump told reporters at the White House that he was unaware of the incident. "I don't know anything about it. I'm not a big fan of The Atlantic," Trump said. A White House official said later that an investigation was under way and Trump had been briefed on it.

The NSC's Hughes said in a statement: "At this time, the message thread that was reported appears to be authentic, and we are reviewing how an inadvertent number was added to the chain."

"The thread is a demonstration of the deep and thoughtful policy coordination between senior officials. The ongoing success of the Houthi operation demonstrates that there were no threats to our servicemembers or our national security."

Hegseth denied sharing war plans in the group chat.

"Nobody was texting war plans, and that's all I have to say about that," he told reporters while on an official trip to Hawaii on Monday.

'EUROPEAN FREE-LOADING'

According to screenshots of the chat reported by The Atlantic, officials in the group debated whether the U.S. should carry out the strikes, and at one point Vance appeared to question whether U.S. allies in Europe, more exposed to shipping disruption in the region, deserved U.S. help.

"@PeteHegseth if you think we should do it let's go," a person identified as Vance wrote. "I just hate bailing Europe out again," the person wrote, adding: "Let's just make sure our messaging is tight here."

A person identified as Hegseth replied: "VP: I fully share your loathing of European free-loading. It's PATHETIC."

The Atlantic reported that the person identified as Vance also raised concerns about the timing of the strikes, and said there was a strong argument in favor of delaying them by a month.

"I am not sure the president is aware how inconsistent this is with his message on Europe right now. There's a further risk that we see a moderate to severe spike in oil prices," the account wrote, before saying he was willing to support the group's consensus.

Yemen, Houthi-ally Iran and the European Union's diplomatic service did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Reuters.

Under U.S. law, it can be a crime to mishandle, misuse or abuse classified information, though it is unclear whether those provisions might have been breached in this case. Messages that The Atlantic report said were set by Waltz to disappear from the Signal app after a period of time also raise questions about possible violations of federal record-keeping laws.

As part of a Trump administration effort to chase down leaks by officials to journalists unrelated to the Signal group, Gabbard posted on X on March 14 that any "unauthorized release of classified information is a violation of the law and will be treated as such."

On Tuesday, Gabbard is due to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee on worldwide threats to the United States.

Created by the entrepreneur Moxie Marlinspike, Signal has gone from an exotic messaging app used by privacy-conscious dissidents to the unofficial whisper network of Washington officialdom.

Democratic lawmakers called the use of the Signal group illegal and demanded an investigation.

"This is one of the most stunning breaches of military intelligence that I have read about in a very, very long time," Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said, adding that he would ask Majority Leader John Thune to investigate.

"We're just finding out about it. But obviously, we've got to run it to ground and figure out what went on there. We'll have a plan," said Thune, a Republican from South Dakota.

There was no immediate suggestion from the White House that the breach would lead to any staffing changes.

"President Trump continues to have the utmost confidence in his national security team, including national security adviser Mike Waltz," White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told Reuters.

Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren said on X the use of Signal to discuss highly sensitive national security issues was "blatantly illegal and dangerous beyond belief."

"Every single one of the government officials on this text chain have now committed a crime – even if accidentally – that would normally involve a jail sentence," Democratic Senator Chris Coons said on X.🔺

தையிட்டி போராட்டக்காரர்களுக்கு  அச்சுறுத்தல்

 தையிட்டி விகாரைக்கு எதிரான போராட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்டவர்களுக்கு சிறிலங்கா பொலிஸாரினால் விடுக்கப்பட்ட அச்சுறுத்தல் தொடர்பில் ஒன்றரை வருடத்தின் பின்னர் இலங்கை மனித உரிமை ஆணைக்குழு விசாரணையை ஆரம்பித்துள்ளது.

தையிட்டி சட்டவிரோத விகாரையை அகற்றக்கோரி 2023  ஆம் ஆண்டு மே மாதம் 23  ஆம் திகதி தமிழ்த் தேசிய மக்கள் முன்னணியினால் முன்னெடுக்கப்பட்டிருந்த  போராட்டத்தின்போது பலாலி சிறிலங்கா காவல்துறையினரால் அராஜகமான அடக்குமுறை பிரயோகிக்கப்பட்டு  சட்டவிரோத கைதுகள் இடம்பெற்றிருந்தது.

இதனையடுத்து, இலங்கை மனித உரிமைகள் ஆணைக் குழுவின் யாழ் பிராந்திய காரியாலயத்தில் எட்டுப் பேரினால் சிறிலங்கா காவல்துறையினருக்கு எதிராக முறைப்பாடு பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டிருந்தது.

ஆயினும், காரணம் எதுவுமின்றி, குறித்த முறைப்பாட்டு கோவைகள் யாழ் பிராந்திய காரியாலயத்திலிருந்து கையேற்கப்பட்டு ஒன்றரை ஆண்டுகளாகியும், இலங்கை மனித உரிமைகள் ஆணைக்குழுவின் தலைமை காரியாலயத்தால்  விசாரணை எதுவும் நடைபெற்றிருக்கவில்லை.

இந்நிலையில் ஒன்றரை ஆண்டுகள் கடந்த நிலையில், இலங்கை மனித உரிமைகள் ஆணைக்குழுவின் கொழும்பு காரியாலயத்தில் இன்றைய நாள் விசாரணை முன்னெடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

கடந்த ஒன்றரை வருடங்களாக விசாரணைகள் முன்னெடுக்கப்படாதிருந்த இலங்கை மனித உரிமைகள் ஆணைக்குழுவின் செயற்பாடு குறித்து நாடாளுமன்ற வரவு செலவுத்திட்ட விவாதத்தின் போது  இலங்கையின் மனித உரிமைகள் குறித்த விடயதானத்தில் உரையாற்றும் போது  நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர் கஜேந்திரகுமார் பொன்னம்பலம் குற்றம் சாட்டியிருந்த நிலையிலேயே இந்த விசாரணை இன்று முன்னெடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

சட்ட விரோத மாற்று மத ஆக்கிரமிப்புக்கு எதிராக ஆரம்பித்த போராட்டம், தற்போது போராட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்டவர்களின் மீதான தாக்குதலுக்கு எதிரான,மனித உரிமைப் போராட்டமாக மாறியுள்ளமை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது:

தையிட்டி, ஒடுக்கும் சிங்கள தேசத்தின் பெரும்பான்மை மக்களின் மதமான பெளத்தமத வழிப்பாட்டுத் தலம் அமைக்கப்பட்டதோடு சம்பந்தப்பட்ட பிரச்சனையாகும்.

இந்த இடத்தில் பல்லாயிரம் ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னால் பெளத்த தலம் இருந்ததாக இராணுவம் கூறுகின்றது.

இலங்கையில்  பெளத்தத்தை பாதுகாப்பது தனது தலையாய கடமை என்று அரசியல் அமைப்புச் சட்டம் கூறுகின்றது.

அநுரா கும்பலின் புதிய ஆட்சி பெளத்த சாசன பாதுகாப்பு அமைச்சை தானும் உருவாக்கி தான் பிக்கு முன்னணி என்பதை நிரூபித்து வருகின்றது.

மறுபுறம் இந்த விகாரை அமைக்கப்பட்ட காணியின் உரிமையாளர் அதற்குரிய சொத்துரிமைப் பத்திரத்தோடு -உறுதியோடு- அலைகின்றார்.

இது ஒரு இடத்தில் ஒருவர் காணியில் மட்டும் நடக்கவில்லை, ஈழம் எங்கணும்- தமிழர் பூமி- எங்கணும் நிகழ்கின்றது.

இன்று நேற்றல்ல 1948 முதல் அரசின் திட்டமாக ஆயுத முனையில் நிகழ்த்தப்பட்டுவருகின்றது.

இது சடுதியாக மனித உரிமைப் போராட்டமாக மாறியுள்ளது!

அரசியல் உரிமைகளை அடக்கி ஒடுக்குபவர்களுக்கு `மனித உரிமை` மிகச் சிறந்த பதுகாப்புக் கவசம் ஆகிவிட்டது.

இது மக்களின் விடுதலைக்கு உதவாது. அரசியல் -தேசிய சுயநிர்ணய உரிமை- முழக்கத்தைத் தரம் தாழ்த்தி போராட்டத்தை மழுங்கடிக்கவே உதவும்.🔺

முடிவெடுப்பதில் பெண்களின் சம பிரதிநிதித்துவத்தின் மறுக்க முடியாத நன்மைகளை ஷார்ப் எடுத்துரைத்தார்: “முடிவெடுப்பதில் பெண்களுக்கு சம பிரதிநிதித்துவம் உள்ளது.வீடுகள் செழிக்கின்றன. சமூகங்கள் செழிக்கின்றன. வணிகம் அதிக லாபகரமானது.நாடுகளும் அதிக வளமானவை என்பதற்கான சான்றுகள் உலகம் முழுவதும் தெளிவாக உள்ளன என்பதை நாங்கள் காண்கிறோம்.” சர்வதேச தளங்களில், குறிப்பாக G20 மூலம் பெண்கள் தலைமையிலான வளர்ச்சியை ஊக்குவிப்பதில் இந்தியாவின் தலைமையையும் அவர் வரவேற்றார்.

“பெண்கள் தலைமையிலான வளர்ச்சிக்கான இந்தியாவின் தலைமைத்துவத்தை நாங்கள் மிகவும் அங்கீகரிக்கிறோம்.பாராட்டுகிறோம்.இந்தியா முன்வைத்த பல சர்வதேச முயற்சிகள் மூலம், இந்தியா முழுவதும் பாலின சமத்துவத்தின் அடிப்படையில் உண்மையில் ஒரு பெரிய வாக்குறுதியை அளிக்கிறது. இந்த தாக்கத்தின் அளவை உண்மையில் மிகைப்படுத்த முடியாது. ஏனெனில் இந்தியா உலகளாவிய நிலையான வளர்ச்சி இலக்குகளில் சிலவற்றில் 25 அல்லது 50 சதவீதத்திற்கு மேல் பங்களிக்க முடியும்.எனவே இந்தியாவில் என்ன நடக்கிறது என்பது குறித்து நாங்கள் மிகவும் உற்சாகமாகவும் நம்பிக்கையுடனும் இருக்கிறோம்,” என்று அவர் மேலும் கூறினார்.

Crustaceans, snails, worms and fish are among the dozens of creatures that deep-sea explorers discovered under a massive Antarctic ice shelf.

Researchers were working off the coast of Antarctica when it happened: A gigantic iceberg about 19 miles long cracked off the ice sheet on Jan. 13, revealing a swath of ocean that had not seen daylight in decades.

The team aboard a research vessel called the Falkor (too) decided to search the seafloor under the freshly exposed ocean. No human had ever explored the deep sea there before.

A large sponge, a cluster of anemones, and other life is seen nearly 230 meters deep. Sponges can grow very slowly, sometimes less than two centimeters a year. “It’s the kind of event that when it happens, you leave whatever you’re doing,” said Patricia Esquete, the expedition’s chief scientist.

Still, expectations weren’t high. The scientists didn’t think much life could thrive tucked under such a thick blanket of ice.

But what the team members found under the iceberg surprised them: giant sea spiders, octopuses, ice fish, corals and sponges, including a vase-shaped one that might be hundreds of years old. In total, the researchers believe they will be able to identify dozens of new species from the expedition.

“We were really surprised and amazed by the diverse ecosystems and the rich ecosystems we found down there,” said Esquete, who is a researcher at the University of Aveiro in Portugal.

The discovery, announced Thursday, not only shows how life finds a way into nearly every corner of the world — including entombed under floating glaciers — but also provides a crucial baseline for understanding how deep-sea life may change on a warming planet.

“They were really serendipitously in the right place at the right time to be right there and to see an ecosystem,” said Jyotika Virmani, head of the Schmidt Ocean Institute, a nonprofit that facilitated the research.

During the roughly month-long expedition, the researchers piloted a remotely operated vehicle to capture photos and video and collect specimens from some of the deepest reaches off Antarctica. The team also explored areas of the remote Bellingshausen Sea farther from the ice sheet. Among the species potentially new to science are crustaceans, sea snails, worms and fish.

It will take months of lab analysis to confirm the discovery of any new species. “Most of the work starts now,” Esquete said.

After a Schmidt Ocean Institute expedition off the coast of Chile last year, scientists identified more than 70 new species, including squat lobsters and marine snails that were completely new to science.

Off Antarctica, the biggest mystery isn’t centered on any particular creature but on the entire ecosystem: How exactly does that much life thrive under so much ice?

In other parts of the ocean, photosynthesizing organisms rain down nutrients to sustain seafloor creatures. But none do so under the dark Antarctic ice. Instead, ocean currents, glacial meltwater or something else has been helping to nourish the deep-sea creatures.

“This is all very much an area of active scientific research now because of this discovery,” Virmani said.

Esquete hopes to go back to see how life under an area uncovered by ice changes, providing a window into how deep-sea life in polar regions may change as temperatures rise and more icebergs calve in Antarctica and elsewhere.
