Following is the response President Mahinda Rajapaksa gave the TNA delegation led by R. Sampanthan, that called on him for talks on December 30.
“With regard to the request to dismantle the High Security Zone, I wish to inform you that I have already started re-settling the original inhabitants, with 70 families already resettled.
There is no problem for the Tamil people in the country today.
They have the freedom to go about as they want, without any fear or suspicion. No raids are conducted on lodges today, for search operations, as done before. There are no problems confronting the Tamil people in Colombo or elsewhere in the country today. People in the East are being resettled in newly reconstructed houses. Provision of infrastructure facilities for people in the North is making headway. We are reconstructing the KKS harbour. A new airport is coming up in Iranamadu. We are developing the Jaffna-Colombo highway, to make it a six-hour drive from Jaffna. We have started extending the democratic rights of the Tamil people, in terms of the 13th Amendment as well.

When we are doing all these with the best of intentions, and when what we are doing is clearly seen, you come here to try to pin us down with a set of proposals which none can implement as conditions.
I will not cow down to your conditions. Do not try to pin me down for no reason.”

ஜனாதிபதி வேட்பாளர் சரத் பொன்சேகாவுக்கு ஆதரவாக கல்முனையில் தேர்தல் பிரசாரத்தை மேற்கொண்ட பின்னர் ஊடகவியலாளரகளைச்; சந்தித்தபோதே இதனைத் தெரிவித்தார்.

கைது செய்யப்பட்ட கே.பி. கொழும்பில் முன்னாள் அமைச்சர் அனுரா பண்டாரநாயக்க மற்றும் அமைச்சர் ஜீ.எல்.பீரிஸ் ஆகியோர் தங்கிய அமைச்சர்கள் வாசஸ்தலத்திலேயே தங்கவைக்கப்பட்டு விசாரிக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறார். முக்கிய சந்திப்புக்களுக்காக கொழும்பிலுள்ள பிரபல விடுதிகளுக்கு அழைத்து செல்லப்பட்டு பின்னர் மீண்டும் அந்த வீட்டிற்கே கூட்டிச் செல்லப்படுகிறார்.

மூன்று தடவைகள் வெளிநாட்டுக்கு அழைத்துச் செல்லப்பட்டிருக்கிறார். விடுதலைப்புலிகளின் கப்பல்களை அவரிடமிருந்து வாங்குவதற்கு சகல நடவடிக்கைகளும் அரச தரப்பில் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டு வருகின்றன. இவை பற்றி மேலதிக தகவல்களை வெளியிட்டால் நாலாம் மாடிக்கு கொண்டு செல்லப்பட்டு விசாரிக்கப்படும் ஆபத்து இருப்பதால் அவற்றை தவிர்ப்பதாக கூறினார்.

END OF AN ERA: India’s pre-eminent Communist leader, a man of immense charisma and accomplishment, he set a record as the nation’s longest serving Chief Minister. His faith in the people was unflinching.
தி ஹிந்து KOLKATA: Jyoti Basu, veteran Marxist leader and one of the tallest figures in the country’s political life, died of septicaemia due to pneumonia that led to multi-organ failure, here on Sunday. He was 95 and is survived by his son and three grandchildren.

After battling for life in a private hospital over the past 17 days, he passed away at 11.47 a.m.

Chairman of the Left Front Committee in the State and Secretary of the West Bengal State Committee of the CPI(M), Biman Bose, announced the passing away of Mr. Basu shortly after noon. “I have come to give you sad news. Jyoti Basu is no more with us. He has left us. I cannot speak any more,” he told journalists outside the hospital.

Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, who was here, described Mr. Basu as “a colossus who strode India’s political scene for many decades,” adding: “He was a great democrat, a great parliamentarian and a great source of inspiration…It is a sad day for all of us.”

Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat, Polit Bureau member and MP Brinda Karat and Somnath Chatterjee, former Lok Sabha Speaker, were present at the hospital.

His body was taken to Peace Haven, a funeral parlour, via the residence of his son, Chandan Bose, and Indira Bhavan in Salt Lake where Mr. Basu lived in the later phase of his life.

Mr. Basu was India’s pre-eminent Communist leader, and one of post-independence India’s greatest and most respected mass political leaders. He was the last of the nine founding Polit Bureau members and India’s longest-serving Chief Minister.

Mr. Basu was a man of immense charisma, and one whose faith in the people was unflinching. He lived a full life, characterised by struggle and by successes in government that few other political leaders in India have been able to match. He was immaculate in dress and bearing, a person of extraordinary personal discipline, and, well into his 80s, known for the briskness of his stride, and for consistently outpacing the security guards who accompanied him.

A byword for intellectual, political and personal integrity and for a straightforward, self-assured and imperturbable style in politics, Mr. Basu made a profound, long-term difference to the large, populous and strategically important State that was his first priority and commanded his best efforts. As has been widely noted, his enduring legacy as Chief Minister of West Bengal between 1977 and 2000 includes land reforms, accountable governance, functioning panchayat institutions, and the creation of a stable atmosphere of communal harmony and secularism.

However, those who remember him chiefly as India’s longest-serving Chief Minister are likely to underestimate his long experience in the crucible of struggle: as a trade union organiser, as a popular agitator, and as a revolutionary fighter – starting, as was typical for his generation, as a freedom fighter and courageously facing and overcoming state-sponsored repression and intolerance in independent India as well.

They are likely also to underestimate the inner resources of one of the most attractive and gifted mass political leaders that India, or indeed any country, has seen over the past half century.

Mr. Basu was the chief architect of the Left Front in West Bengal, and he repeatedly said that it was to “the conscious, struggling people” of the State that credit went for making it possible for the Left Front to win seven successive Assembly elections. Being elected for a five-year term seven times in succession was “not only an achievement without precedent in India,” he noted matter-of-factly, “but also in the history of parliamentary democracy in the world.”

Never one to despair over fluctuating political fortunes, he observed that the recent electoral setbacks suffered by the Left in West Bengal were because “we could not take our message properly to the people.” He added: “Besides, in certain areas we made mistakes.”

In an interview to Bengali daily Ganashakti a month after the results of the 2009 Lok Sabha polls were announced, Mr. Basu reiterated his faith in the people. “It is the people who determine the course of history,” he said, adding that there “can be some who misunderstand [us] temporarily, but if we keep going to the people repeatedly and make ourselves worthy of their love, they will most certainly understand us. We will have to again draw to our side those who opposed us in the last panchayat and Lok Sabha elections.”

President leads nation in mourning Jyoti Basu

NEW DELHI: President Pratibha Patil led the country in paying rich tributes to the former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu, as leaders across the political spectrum condoled his death while recalling the contribution of the nonagenarian Marxist leader.

The President said Mr. Basu earned the unique distinction of being the longest serving Chief Minister of any State from the late seventies to 2000, and displayed his abilities as a leader of the people, an able administrator and an eminent statesman. “In his passing away the nation has lost a veteran and an eminent public figure.”

Expressing deep anguish over Mr. Basu’s death, Vice President Hamid Ansari said his sagacity and leadership at both the State and the national level have been a source of inspiration and guidance.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said it was the end of an era in the annals of Indian politics.

Dr. Singh in his message to the departed leader’s son said: “I turned to him for his sagacious advice on all matters, whether they related to West Bengal or to issues of national importance. His advice was statesmanlike but always pragmatic based on unshakable values that he championed throughout his political career.”

The former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, said Mr. Basu was a dedicated political worker, an able administrator who became Chief Minister by dint of work and took visionary steps.

இந்தியாவின் நிலைப்பாட்டில் தற்போது மாற்றத்தைக் காண்கிறோம். இலங்கைத் தமிழர் பிரச்சினைக்கு அரசியல் தீர்வு காணவேண்டும் என்ற கருத்து இந்தியாவில் வளர்ந்து வருவதை அவதானிக்கிறோம் என சம்பந்தன் நேற்று யாழில் கூறியுள்ளார்.

இந்தியாதான் தமிழ் மக்களின் நிம்மதியான வாழ்வுக்கு, அவர்களுக்கு நல்லதொரு அரசியல் தீர்வை ஏற்படுத்திக் கொடுக்க உதவவேண்டும் என்று எமது மக்கள் சார்பாக இந்தியாவிடம் பகிரங்கமாகக் கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறேன் எனவும் கோரிக்கை விடுத்துள்ளார். இன்னும் ஓரிரு தினங்களில் புதுடில்லிக்கு எனது நண்பர்கள் சிலருடன் சென்று தமிழ் மக்களுக்குரிய அரசியல் தீர்வு
தொடர்பாகப் பேச்சு நடத்தவுள்ளேன் எனத் தொவிவித்துள்ளார். ஆனால் தான் என்ன தீர்வு பற்றி பேசபோகின்றேன் என மக்களிடம் கூறவில்லை.

நல்லூர் இளங்கலைஞர் மண்டபத்தில் நேற்று நடைபெற்ற தமிழரசுக்கட்சியின் தேசிய மாநாட்டில் சிறப்புரையாற்றுகையில் அவர் மேலும் தெரிவித்ததாவது:

சர்வதேசப் பங்களிப்பு குறித்து இங்கு கருத்துக்கூறுவது பொருத்தம் எனக் கருதுகின்றேன். 1983ஆம் ஆண்டு இனக்கலவரத்தின் பின் இனப்படுகொலை நடைபெற்றபின் சர்வதேச சமூகம் எமது விடயத்தில் மிகவும் அக்கறை காட்ட ஆரம்பித்தது. இந்தியா கூடுதல் பங்களிப்புச் செய்தது. துரதிர்ஷ்டவசமாக ஒரு காலகட்டத்தில் பல சம்பவங்கள் இடம்பெற்ற பின்னர் இடம்பெற்ற விடயங்கள் குறித்துப் பேச வேண்டிய அவசியமில்லை. இந்தியா ஒதுங்கிவிட்டது.

அவர்கள் ஒதுங்கியதற்குப் பல காரணங்கள் இருக்கலாம். ஏனைய நாடுகளைப் பொறுத்தமட்டில் ஓரளவு அக்கறை காட்டி வந்தார்கள். அவர்களின் பங்களிப்பு பரிபூரணமானதாக இருந்ததாகக் கூறமுடியாது. பல நாடுகளின் நிலைப்பாடு, இந்தியா என்ன செய்கின்றதோ அதன் பின்னால் நிற்போம் என்பதாகும். பல நாடுகளின் ராஜதந்திரிகள், வெளிநாட்டுத் தலைவர்கள் இங்கு வரும்போது அவர்கள் கூறுவது என்னவென்றால் இந்தியா பங்கெடுக்க வேண்டும்; நாங்கள் உதவியாக இருப்போம் என்பதாகும்.

இதை இந்தியாவிற்கு நாங்கள் பலதடவைகள் எடுத்துக்கூறி வந்துள்ளோம். தற்போது இந்தியாவின் நிலைப்பாட்டில் மாற்றத்தைக்காண்கிறோம். தமிழர் பிரச்சினை தொடர்பாக தங்களின்

பங்களிப்பைச் செய்து நியாயமான அரசியல் தீர்வை ஏற்படுத்த வேண்டும் என்ற கருத்து அவர்கள் மத்தியில் வளர்ந்து வருவதை அவதானிக்கின்றோம். நானும் எனது நண்பர்கள் சிலரும் எதிர்வரும் இரண்டு மூன்று நாள்களுக்குள் புதுடில்லிக்குச் செல்லவிருக்கின்றோம்.

எமது மக்கள் சார்பாக இந்தியாவுக்கு ஒரு விநயமான வேண்டுகோளை விடுக்க விரும்புகின்றோம். தயவு செய்து எங்களுக்கு உதவுங்கள். எமது மக்களின் நிம்மதியான வாழ்வுக்குஅவர்களுக்கு நல்லதொரு அரசியல்தீர்வை ஏற்படுத்திக் கொடுக்க உதவுங்கள் என்று எமது மக்கள் சார்பாக பகிரங்கமாகக் கேட்டுக் கொள்ளவிரும்புகின்றேன் என்றார்

நாம் கூறிய விடயங்களை ஆர்வமாகவும் அக்கறையுடனும் செவிமடுத்த இந்திய தரப்பினர் அவற்றை உள்வாங்கிக்கொண்டனர். மேலும் தமிழ்த் தேசிய கூட்டமைப்புடன் தொடர்ந்து செயற்படத் தயார் என்றும் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது. இதேவேளை மோசமான காலநிலை காரணமாக இந்திய வெளியுறவுத்துறை அமைச்சரை சந்திக்க முடியவில்லை. நாங்கள் சென்ற விமானம்

எனவே மீண்டும் எதிர்வரும் ஜனாதிபதி தேர்தலின் பின்னர் இம்மாத இறுதியில் இந்தியாவுக்கு விஜயம் செய்து உயர்மட்ட தலைவர்களை சந்திக்கவுள்ளோம். அதன்போது பல விடயங்கள் குறித்து கலந்துரையாட எதிர்பார்க்கின்றோம்.

Sampanthan says TNA stands for undivided Lanka

Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentary Group Leader R. Sampanthan declared yesterday that his party stands for a united and undivided Sri Lanka.

In a statement issued last night, Mr. Sampanthan said he had discussions with the two main Presidential candidates on matters of immediate concern to the Tamil people, including a political solution for the Tamil speaking people in the north and east.

He said all political parties in the country had discussed the political solution at length and their view was such a solution should be found within an undivided Sri Lanka.

“All these discussions have been on the basis that any solution has to be found within the framework of a united and undivided Sri Lanka. The TNA, which is an amalgam of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu katchi (the Federal Party), the TULF and other Tamil political formations, has demonstrated its clear commitment to this position both within Parliament and outside,” Mr. Sampanthan said.

He said his discussions with the two main Presidential candidates with regard to a political solution revolved around President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s statement to the All Party Representative Committee in 2006.

“My discussions with both candidates were on the same issues none of which could have led to the division of the country,” he said.

“Churning the communal cauldron by misrepresenting facts, for narrow political gain, cannot do any good to the people of this country,” he added.

எனது நாட்டை துண்டாடுவதற்கோ அல்லது அதன் ஒருமைப்பாட்டை சீர்குலைப்பதற்கோ எந்தச் சந்தர்ப்பத்திலும் இடமளிக்க மாட்டேன் என்று எதிர்க்கட்சிகளின் ஜனாதிபதி பொது வேட்பாளர் ஜெனரல் சரத் பொன்சேகா தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

என்மீது வைத்துள்ள நம்பிக்கையின் பிரகாரமே பலதரப்பட்ட அரசியல் சக்திகள் எனக்கு ஆதரவளித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றன. இந்நிலையில், என்மீது பல்வேறு குற்றச்சாட்டுக்கள் ஆளும் தரப்பினால் முன்வைக்கப்படுகின்றன. இருப்பினும் எனது சேவைக் காலத்தில் ஒரு சதத்தையேனும் மோசடி செய்யவில்லை என்பதை பொறுப்புடன் கூறிக்கொள்கிறேன் என்றும் அவர்
குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்.

இது தொடர்பில் ஜெனரல் சரத் பொன்சேகாவின் ஊடகப் பிரிவு அனுப்பி வைத்துள்ள அறிக்கையில் மேலும் கூறப்பட்டுள்ளதாவது:

40 வருடகால அரச சேவையில் பணியாற்றிய நான் அக்காலப்பகுதியில் அரசாங்கத்தினால் எனக்கு வழங்கப்பட்டிருந்த பொறுப்பினை எந்தவிதமான குறைபாடுகளும் இன்றி நிறைவேற்றியிருக்கிறேன்.

இந்நாட்டு மக்களுக்கு வழங்கிய உறுதி மொழியின் பிரகாரம் புலிப் பயங்கரவாதத்தை நாட்டிலிருந்து இல்லாதொழிப்பதற்கு எத்தகைய நடவடிக்கைகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டன என்பதை மக்களே அறிவர்.

ஊழல் மோசடிகளோ அல்லது நிதி தொடர்பிலான மோசடிகளோ இல்லாவிட்டால் தரகுப் பணம் சம்பாதிப்பதிலோ ஈடுபட்டிருந்தால் என்னால் தொழில் ரீதியாக முன்னேற்றம் கண்டிருக்க முடியாது. எனவே, எந்தவிதமான ஊழல் மோசடிகளிலும் ஈடுபட்டதில்லை என்பதை என்னால் பகிரங்கமாக கூறிக் கொள்ள முடியும். அரச சேவையில் இருந்த காலப்பகுதியில் ஒரு
சதத்தையேனும் மோசடி செய்யவில்லை என்பதை பொறுப்புடன் கூறிக் கொள்கிறேன்.

பிரதான அரசியல் கட்சிகளின் தலைவர்கள், கட்சிகள் மற்றும் பொதுமக்கள் ஆகியோரிடமிருந்து கிடைக்கப்பெற்ற முழுமையான ஆதரவு மற்றும் அமைப்புக்கு மத்தியிலேயே நான் அரசியல் பயணத்திற்குள் பிரவேசித்துள்ளேன்.

இப்போது நான் இணைந்துள்ள அரசியல் கட்சிகளுடன் எந்த விதமான உடன்படிக்கைகளும் ஏற்படுத்திக் கொள்ளவில்லை. அதேபோல், எந்தவொரு அரசியல் தலைவர்களுடனும் கூட ஒப்பந்தங்களை மேற்கொள்ளவில்லை.

அவர்கள் என்னுடன் இணைந்திருப்பது என்மீதும் எனது கடந்தகால 40 வருட நம்பிக்கைமிக்க சேவையில் ஏற்பட்டுள்ள நம்பிக்கையின் காரணத்தினாலேயே ஆகும். நான் ஜனாதிபதித் தேர்தலில் போட்டியிடுவதையிட்டு தோல்வியைக் கண்டுகொண்டிருக்கின்ற தற்போதைய ஜனாதிபதியும் அவரது குழுவினரும் என்மீது ஊழல் குற்றச்சாட்டுக்களை சுமத்தி வருகின்றனர்.

என்மீது விரல் நீட்டி குற்றம் சுமத்துபவர்கள் என்மீது மட்டுமல்லாது என்னைப்போல் அரச சேவையில் ஈடுபட்டுள்ள அனைத்து அதிகாரிகளுக்கும் எதிராகவே குற்றம் சுமத்துகின்றனர் என்று கூறிக்கொள்ள விரும்புகிறேன். இதனால் அரச சேவையாளர்கள் பாரிய பிரச்சினைகளுக்கு இலக்காகியுள்ளனர்.

எனவே, என்மீது சுமத்தப்படுகின்ற குற்றச்சாட்டுக்கள் உண்மைக்குப் புறம்பானவை என்பதை மீண்டும் தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறேன். அரச ஊழியர்களின் சேவைøய பெற்றுக்கொண்டு பின்னர் அவர்களையும் அவர்களுக்கு வழங்கப்பட்ட உறுதி மொழிகளையும் தூக்கியெறிவது ஜனாதிபதியின் இயல்பான விடயமாகும். ஆனாலும் அந்த நிலைப்பாட்டை நான் கொண்டிருக்கவில்லை என்பதையும் மக்களின் கவனத்திற்கு கொண்டு வருகிறேன்.

தமிழ்த் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்புக்கு இந்தியா பல்வேறுபட்ட உத்தரவுகள்
இந்தியாவிற்கு விஜயம் மேற்கொண்டுள்ள நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள் குழு இந்திய அதிகாரிகளுடன் பேச்சவார்தைகளை நடத்தியுள்ளது.

இந்த சந்திப்புகளின் போது எதிர்வரும் ஜனாதிபதித் தேர்தலில் கூட்டமைப்பு சரத் பொன்சேகாவை ஆதரிப்பதற்கு மேற்கொண்ட தீர்மானம் குறித்து இந்திய அரசாங்க தரப்பிற்கு தெளிவு படுத்தியுள்ளதாக நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர் மாவை சேனாதிராஜா தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

தமிழ் மக்கள் ஆட்சி மாற்றம் ஒன்று ஏற்பட வேண்டும் என்று விரும்புவதாகவும் அவர்களின் விருப்பங்களுக்கு அமைவாகவே தாங்கள் ஆட்சி மாற்றத்திற்காக சரத் பொன்சேகாவை ஆதரிக்க தீர்மானித்துள்ளதாகவும் கூட்டமைப்பினர் சார்பில் இந்திய அரசாங்கத்திற்கு தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதாக அவர் கூறினார்.

நாளைய தினம் நாடு திரும்பும் கூட்டமைப்பினர் வடக்கு கிழக்கில் சரத் பொன்சேகாவிற்கு ஆதரவான பரப்புரை நடவடிக்கைகளை முழு வீச்சுடன் ஆரம்பிக்கவுள்ளதாகவும் மாவை சேனாதிராஜா தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

இதேவேளை தேர்தல் பரப்புரைகளின் போது இந்தியாவிற்கோ தமிழக அரசிற்கோ நெருக்கடி ஏற்படுத்தும் விதமான கருத்துக்களை கூட்டமைப்பு வெளியிடக் கூடாது என்ற கண்டிப்பான
உத்தரவு இந்திய தரப்பால் வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

நடைபெற்று முடிந்த யுத்தத்தின் பின்னணியில் இந்தியா இருந்துள்ளமை குறித்தோ தமிழ் மக்களுக்கு அரசியல் தீர்வினை இந்தியா பெற்று தர தவறியுள்ளதாகவோ கூட்டமைப்பினர்
பரப்புரைக்கக் கூடாது என்றும் அறிவுறுத்தல் விடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதாகவும் தகவல்கள் வெளியாகியுள்ளன.

இதேவேளை மகிந்த ராஜபக்ச ஜனாதிபதித் தேர்தலில் வெற்றி பெற்றால் அவருடன் இணைந்து தாங்கள் முன்வைக்கும் தீர்விற்கு கூட்டமைப்பு ஆதரவு வழங்க வேண்டும் என்றும் இந்தியா
வலியுறுத்தியதாகவும் தெரியவந்துள்ளது.

வடக்கு கிழக்கு மீள இணைக்கப்பட மாட்டாதென மல்வத்த பீடாதிபதிகளிடம் சரத் பொன்சேகா உறுதி

1) தமிழ்த் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பிற்கும் தமக்கும் இடையில் இரகசிய ஒப்பந்தம் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டதாக வெளியான செய்திகளில் எவ்வித உண்மையும் இல்லை,

2) நாட்டின் ஒருமைப்பாட்டிற்கு குந்தகம் ஏற்படக்கூடிய எந்தவொரு தீர்மானத்தையும் தாம் ஒருபோதும் எடுக்கப்போவதில்லை,

3) விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் பிடியில் இருந்து மீட்டெடுக்கப்பட்ட வடக்கு கிழக்கு மாகாணங்களை தாமே மீள இணைப்பதற்கு இணங்கியதாக வெளியான செய்தியில் உண்மையில்லை என அவர் உறுதியாகத் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

DUBLIN TRIBUNAL FINDS AGAINST SRILANKA ON CHARGES OF WAR CRIMES
In Dublin today at 2pm the Peoples Tribunal chairman FranCois Houtart read the preliminary findings of the Peoples Tribunal on the war in Sri Lanka and its aftermath. There are 4 findings:
1. That the Sri Lankan Government is guilty of war crimes
2. That the Sri Lankan Government is guilty of crimes against humanity
3. That the charge of genocide requires further investigation
4. That the International Community, Particularly the UK and USA, share responsibility for the breakdown of the peace process.

Harrowing evidence including video footage was submitted y eye witnesses of the use of heavy artillery and phosphorous munitions, and of the continuous violation of human rights by military activity to a panel of 10 international jurors over two days. Irish members of the jury were Denis Halliday and Mary Lawlor.

The Irish Forum for Peace in Sri Lanka welcomed the preliminary findings of the tribunal.
Responding to the findings the forum issued the following five demands:

1. We call on the Sri Lankan Government to allow the UN to conduct an inquiry into war crimes and crimes against humanity perpetrated during the final stages of the war between the Sri Lankan armed forces and the LTTE, and during the war’s aftermath.
2. We call on the Sri Lankan Government to release all those being detained in concentration camps and the estimated 11,000 people being held secretly at unknown locations.
3. We call on the Sri Lankan Government to end the use of extra-judicial killings, sexual violence and the deprivation of food and water as weapons against a civilian population.
4. We call on the Sri Lankan Government to end the suppression of political dissent by violent or other means.
5. We call on the Sri Lankan Government to fully implement human rights for all citizens of Sri Lanka and a political solution involving the full participation of the Tamil population, ending the systematic historical discriminatory measures of the Sri Lankan state against the Tamil people.

Irish Forum for Peace in Sri Lanka asserts that long term peace and stability can only be established on the basis of full justice and rights for all the inhabitants of the island.

எதிர்வரும் ஜனாதிபதித் தேர்தல் மற்றும் இலங்கைத் தமிழ் மக்களின் அரசியல் எதிர்காலம் போன்றவை தொடர்பான விடயங்களில் தமிழ்த் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பு எடுத்துள்ள முடிவுகள், அணுகு முறைகள் போன்றவற்றை இந்தியா ஏற்றுக்கொண்டுள்ளது.
இவ்வாறு தமிழ்த் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பின் நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினரான மாவை சேனாதிராஜா நேற்றுப் புதுடில்லியில் வைத்துத் தெரிவித்தார்.

நேற்று மாலை வரை இரண்டு நாள்கள் புதுடில்லியில் தங்கியிருந்து இந்திய அரசுத் தலைமையோடும், அதிகாரிகளோடும் பேச்சு நடத்திய தமிழ்த் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பின் உயர்மட்டக் குழுவில் மாவை சேனாதிராஜாவும் ஒருவர். அவருடன் கூட்டமைப்பின் நாடாளுமன்றக் குழுத் தலைவர் இரா. சம்பந்தன் மற்றும் எம்.பிக்களான சுரேஷ் பிரேமச்சந்திரன், செல்வம் அடைக்கலநாதன் ஆகியோரும் அந்தப் பேச்சுகளில் பங்குபற்றினர். நேற்று முன்தினம் இந்திய வெளியுறவுத்துறைச் செயலாளர் நிருபமா ராவ் மற்றும் வெளியுறவுத்துறையின் மூத்த அதிகாரிகளைச் சந்தித்து விரிவான பேச்சுகளில் ஈடுபட்ட அக்குழுவினர் நேற்றும் இந்திய அரசின் உயர் வட்டாரங்களுடன் கலந்தாலோசனையில் ஈடுபடவிருந்தனர். இதுவரை இடம்பெற்ற சந்திப்புகள் குறித்து மாவை சேனாதிராஜா எம்.பி. நேற்று "உதயனு" க்குக் கூறியவை வருமாறு:

முக்கியமாக மூன்று விடயங்களை இந்தியத் தரப்புக்கு எடுத்துரைத்தோம்.
ஒன்று தற்போதைய ஜனாதிபதித் தேர்தல் தொடர்பில் தமிழ்த் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பு தமிழ்மக்களோடு சேர்ந்து எடுத்த முடிவு, அதன் பின்புலம் போன்றவற்றை விளக்கினோம்.
அடுத்தது தற்போதைய அரசியல் கள நிலைவரம், தமிழ்மக்களின் எண்ணக் கருத்து, நிலைப்பாடுகள், எதிர்பார்ப்புகள், அபிலாஷைகள் என்பவற்றைக் கூறினோம்.
மூன்றாவது இலங்கைத் தமிழர்களுக்கு நியாயம், நீதி கிட்டுவதற்காக நாம் எதிர்காலத்தில் முன்னெடுக்கவுள்ள திட்டங்கள், இலக்குகள், அதற்காக இந்தியாவிடமிருந்து எதிர்பார்க்கும் ஒத்துழைப்பு ஆகியன.

நம்பிக்கை தருவதாக அமைந்தது
இந்த விடயங்களை மிக்க கவனமாக செவிமடுத்த புதுடில்லித் தரப்பு, எங்களுடைய கருத்துகளை உள்வாங்கி ஏற்றுக்கொண்டுள்ளது. மிகவும் ஆரோக்கியமானதாகவும், நம்பிக்கை தருவதாகவும் இந்தத் தொடர்பாடல் இடம்பெற்று வருகின்றமை குறித்து நாம் முழுத் திருப்தி அடைந்துள்ளோம்.இன்று (சனியன்று) நாம் சென்னை திரும்பி, அடுத்த நாள் கொழும்பு செல்வோம். நாளை 17 ஆம் திகதிமுதல் வடக்கு, கிழக்கில் எமது தேர்தல் பிரசார நடவடிக்கைகள் முழு மூச்சாக ஒரு வாரத்துக்கு இடம்பெறும். கிழக்கில் முஸ்லிம் தரப்புடன் சேர்ந்து பிரசாரக் கூட்டங்களை நடத்தவும் உத்தேசித்துள்ளோம். வடக்கு, கிழக்குக்கு வெளியிலும் கொழும்பிலும் பிரசாரக் கூட்டங்களை நடத்துவது குறித்துப் பரிசீலித்து வருகின்றோம். என்றார் அவர். இதேநேரம், இலங்கையின் தற்போதைய ஜனாதிபதித் தேர்தலில் ஆளும் தரப்பு வேட்பாளரான ஜனாதிபதி மஹிந்த ராஜபக்ஷவுக்கு எதிரான நிலைப்பாட்டை வெளிப்படையாகவே தமிழ்த் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பு எடுத்துள்ள கையோடு, கூட்டமைப்பின் மூத்த தலைவர்களை அரசியல் பேச்சு நடத்துவதற்காக புதுடில்லி அழைத்தமை, இலங்கை அரசுத் தரப்புக்குக் காட்டப்பட்ட தவறான சமிஞ்ஞை என்ற சாரப்பட இவ்விடயத்தைக் கொழும்பு கவனத்தில் எடுத்திருப்பதாக சில வட்டாரங்கள் தெரிவித்தன. எனினும், இவ்விடயம் தொடர்பில் கொழும்புத் தரப்பில் இருந்து அத்தகைய உத்தியோகபூர்வ கருத்து வெளிப்பாடு ஏதும் இதுவரை வெளியாகவில்லை என்பதும் குறிப்பிடத்தக்கதாகும்.
