Madras HC Says NO To Porkalathil Oru Poo’s Release For Portraying Sri Lankan War Crimes

The Madras High Court has upheld an order of the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT), which had refused to grant certification to a feature film in Tamil directed by K.Ganeshan, titled Porkalathil Oru Poo, portraying the life of a journalist named Isai Priya in Sri Lanka.

By allowing a temporary injunction application preferred by the relatives of Isai Priya, Justice TS Sivagnanam also restrained the director and producer of the film from releasing the film.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) orders refusing certification of the film was upheld by the FCAT observing that the film criticises India and the Sri Lankan Army and justifies Tamil Eelam by the LTTE, a banned outfit; the film portrays the brutal gangrape and killing of LTTE journalist Isai Priya and it contains too much of violence; the film is based on incidents in the life of a LTTE journalist; the map shows a separated Tamil Eelam by the LTTE and the last two reels deal with the brutal inhuman killing and rape.

Upholding the FCAT order, the court said the picture cannot be certified if it lowers the moral standards of those who see it or if it creates in the mind of the audience sympathy towards crime, towards wrongdoing or evil.

“That apart, due regard should be had to the standards of the country and the people to which the story relates, and it shall not be so portrayed so as to deprave the morality of the audience. The prevailing laws shall not be ridiculed as to create sympathy for violation of such laws,” the court observed.

The court also observed that multiple tiers of authorities who viewed the film and heard the petitioner, had recorded a definite conclusion that in the film, there were derogatory references against the Sri Lankan Army and the Army men were depicted in poor light, which would strain the relationship between the two countries.

The film deals with the sensitive issue of bifurcation of Sri Lanka in two parts and the film having been judged from the point of view of its overall impact and the period depicted and the contemporary standards of a country and the people to which the film relates held that it is not fit for public viewing, the court added.

The interim injunction, as prayed for by the sister and mother of Isai Priya, was also granted by the court on the ground that the film is not a feature film (documentary), but a commercial venture with the sole object of making money with no personal research done by the petitioner, but purely said to have been motivated by watching a TV channel and the movie infringes the privacy of the plaintiffs, the family members of Isai Priya and their descendants

Indian troops have fired warning shots and used tear gas as they clashed with thousands of people in Srinagar protesting against the killing of a 12-year-old boy by security forces.

Doctors told Al Jazeera that Junaid Ahmad died early on Saturday at a hospital in the main city of the Indian-administered Kashmir, hours after suffering a head injury and pellet wounds.

Residents said the boy was sprayed with pellets in the lawn outside his home, but police said he was part of anti-India protests that took place on Friday(07-10-2016).

A doctor at the Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, where the boy was brought to, told Al Jazeera that the 12-year-old was "shot by pellets in his head and chest".

Ahmad's death sparked widespread anger, with thousands of protesters chanting slogans
"Go India, go back" and "We want freedom", as they marched to the "Martyr's Graveyard" with the boy's body.

Clashes between security forces and protesters soon broke out, which led to a curfew being imposed in Srinagar.

"We are taking all possible measures so that the protests don't spread to other areas," a police officer told AFP news agency, referring to the curfew.

On Friday, over 50 people were injured during protests in the restive Himalayan region, which has recently seen its largest protests against Indian rule in years following the July killing of a popular rebel commander, Burhan Wani, by Indian soldiers.

At least 90 civilians have been killed and thousands injured, with hundreds among them blinded and maimed, mostly by government forces firing bullets and shotgun pellets at rock-throwing protesters.
Military crackdown

The protests, and a sweeping military crackdown, have all but paralysed life in Indian-controlled Kashmir, with shops, schools and most banks remaining shut and mobile phone and internet services working intermittently.

Meanwhile, suspected rebels fired at a police post in the southern Shopian district killing an officer and injuring three others, a police statement said on Saturday.

Kashmir has been divided between rivals India and Pakistan since the end of British rule in 1947. Both claim the territory in full.

Anti-India sentiment runs deep in Kashmir, where rebel groups have fought Indian troops since 1989 for either independence or a merger with Pakistan. More than 70,000 people have been killed since then.

Tension between the nuclear-armed neighbours has soared after an armed attack last month on an Indian army base killed 19 soldiers, with the two armies exchanging heavy fire and mortars across their de facto border in Kashmir almost every day.

Comrade Khalida Jarrar, leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, said that the attendance of a Palestinian leadership delegation, headed by PA president Mahmoud Abbas, at the funeral of war criminal Shimon Peres embodies the humiliating relationship of this defeated “leadership” with the occupation, saying that such a leadership cannot represent the aspirations and hopes of our people.

In an interview with Sawt al-Shaab radio, Jarrar said “How can the leadership of an occupied people participate in the funeral of the perpetrator of massacres against its people, including the attack on Qana in 1996, knowing that this war criminal is also a founder of the settlements, developer of nuclear weapons, and responsible for the killing of our people in occupied Palestine ’48 on Land Day 1976?”

Jarrar said that this action by the PA leadership was a direct insult to the mothers of the martyrs, the prisoners, the wounded and all of those with demolished homes, and all of the Palestinian people who are still suffering daily from the occupation and its crimes. She also noted that the humiliating justifications made for this participation by the PA leadership do not reflect the positions of the Palestinian people in any way who have a consensus to reject this participation in Peres’ funeral. The Palestinian people are proud with a strong will, despite their difficult circumstances, said Jarrar.

Further, she noted that it is clear that the PA leadership is committed to the approach of bilateral negotiations and seeking to beg the occupation that they are willing to return to occupation. She also noted that the PA participation in Peres’ funeral also gives cover to Arab normalization with the occupation.

Jarrar noted further that it is clear that there is no interest on the part of the PA leadership in an alternative political approach, emphasizing that it is necessary to express the overwhelming popular rejection of the PA participation in Peres’ funeral and the entire dangerous approach it represent. She noted that in over 70 years, the Palestinian people have never raised the white flag of surrender and have continued intifada and resistance to the occupation: that while the people never give up, there are “leaders” who give up. Jarrar reiterated that a leadership that participates in the funeral of the war criminal Peres is not suitable for a people who have offered so many sacrifices for their freedom.

At least 60 people sustained injuries in clashes that broke out across Kashmir after Friday prayers, even as police foiled the joint resistance leadership’s call for a march to UN office in Srinagar with curfew and full force, reports and witnesses said. A 12-year-old boy was seriously injured at Eidgah Srinagar after he was hit by pellets in the forces’ action and his condition was stated as critical at SK Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura.

SRINAGAR

The 12-year-old boy from Saidapora area of Eidgah sustained grave pellet injuries in his head and chest in the forces’ action, witnesses said. The boy identified as Junaid Ahmed was immediately removed to SKIMS, Soura in a critical condition. A doctor there said they have admitted Junaid in the ICU where his condition is serious.

Clashes broke out in various areas of Srinagar after forces were withdrawn in the evening. Reports said intense clashes broke out at Eidgah, Safa Kadal, Maharaj Gunj, Nawa Kadal,

Sekidafar, Kaka Sarai, Khanyar, Nowhatta, Saraf Kadal and Chattabal areas. Reports of protests also came in from Hyderpora, Peerbagh, Nowgam, Lasjan and Soiteng areas. 10 youth sustained injuries in clashes in Srinagar areas, they said. Meanwhile, curfew was imposed in areas falling under jurisdiction of seven police stations in Srinagar to foil the “UN chalo” called by the joint resistance leadership. Witnesses said the revered shrine of Syed Yaqoob (RA) at Sonwar—just outside the UN office—was padlocked to prevent large gathering of people. After increased movement of private vehicles for six days, roads across Srinagar wore a deserted look on Friday.  “Curfew was imposed as a precautionary measure in seven police station areas of Srinagar city,” a police official said. These include Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, Safakadal, Maharaj Gunj, Maisuma and Batamaloo. Meanwhile, authorities disallowed Friday congregational prayers at historic Jamia Masjid for 13th consecutive week.

SOUTH KASHMIR

Amid restrictions, at least 15 people sustained injuries as protests and clashes erupted in many areas of South Kashmir after Friday prayers. Reports said forces went on rampage in Tral Payeen area of Tral in the morning, resulting in assault injuries to several inmates. “The forces without any provocation barged into houses, ransacked household goods and smashed windowpanes,” witnesses said. They said the forces also severely beat up inmates including women as a result of which at least six people sustained injuries. The incident triggered massive protests in Tral after Friday prayers. Clashes also erupted in Tahab village of Puwama after Friday prayers.“Forces lobbed shells and fired pellets to disperse the protesting youth,” witnesses said. They said at least four people sustained injuries. Huge pro-freedom protest demonstrations were also taken out from Aarihal, Kakpora and Pampore areas of Pulwama district after Friday prayers. The demos, however, concluded peacefully. Forces also foiled Sallar-Pahlagam pro-freedom march called by locals. “Forces had erected barricades at various places to stop people from marching towards the area,” witnesses said. They said the forces also smashed windowpanes of houses and also arrested four youth. Clashes also erupted in the area, resulting in minor injuries to two people. Restrictions were put in place at in all small and major towns—Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, Pampore, Awantipora, Bijbehara, Mattan, Qazigund and Kakapora.  In the meantime, hundreds of people after Friday prayers carried out a protest rally against the arrests made by police in Ruhamoo area of Pulwama. Carrying placards and banners, the protesters were raising slogans against the government for arresting some youth in the area. The peaceful protest started from Markazi Jamia Masjid and concluded at main Chowk Ruhamoo. “They were demanding release of a Hurriyat activist Manzoor Bagat and many others who were arrested by police from the area,” locals said. Reports said roads at Chewa Kalan and Muran were blocked by youth since morning and no vehicle was allowed to move. Protest rallies were also held at many interior areas of the district. In Pulwama town, section 144 was imposed by the district
administration to thwart any attempt at protests. A complete strike was observed in the entire district. A thin movement of private transport was seen on some roads.

NORTH KASHMIR

Reports said joint Friday congregational prayers were offered at Qadeem Eidgah in old town Baramulla. Soon after prayers, a massive pro-freedom protest march was taken out from
the Eidgah. As the protestors reached near Lakarhamam, police from across a river lobbed scores of teargas shells towards the protesting youth. Later, a contingent of police raided the area, triggering clashes. Meanwhile, police and paramilitary forces cordoned the area near Government Degree College (Boys) in the evening. Reports said after noticing “some suspicious movement near a hotel building”, police fired some shots in the air and laid a siege. Intense clashes broke out at Khanpora and Cement Bridges in Baramulla while forces were being withdrawn from duties. Reports said clashes broke out in old town Baramulla in Mohalla Jamia where eight people sustained injuries. Witnesses said forces allegedly torched a motorbike at Kakarhama. Police fired dozens of teargas shells to disperse the protestors in which five youth sustained injuries. Clashes were on till late evening.

Reports from Sopore said soon after Friday prayers, clashes erupted after forces allegedly vandalized the venue of a proposed freedom rally. Five people sustained injuries in the forces’ action at Doabgah village. Clashes also erupted after thousands of people took out a pro-freedom rally at Jamia Masjid Sopore and New Colony Sopore.

Forces fired pellets and teargas shells to disperse the protestors in which at least 20 people sustained injuries. Protests after Friday prayers were held in many areas of Sopore that include Zainageer, Muslim Peer, Chanakhan, Botengoo, Warpora, Bomia, and Syedpora. Police foiled a pro-freedom rally in Gulshan Chowk area after Friday congregational prayers.

Reports from Bandipora district said police foiled a pro-freedom rally in Gulshan Chowk area after Friday prayers. Witnesses said soon after Friday prayers people from Plan, Nibripora,

Nusoo and Nowpora areas were trying to assemble in Gulshan Chowk, but police foiled their attempt by resorting to teargas shelling, triggering brief clashes. Sources said several resistance leaders were supposed to address the rally. They said youths clashed with police by hurling stones and rocks at them in Plan area who responded by firing several teargas shells and pellets. Meanwhile, residents of Ajas, Bazipora and Chimpenzpora villages held a peaceful rally after culmination of Friday congregational prayers amid pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. The protestors blocked Bandipora-Srinagar highway, demanding release of youths who were picked up by police last night in Ajas village. They alleged that police have picked up innocent youth and framed them as stone-pelters. The protestors later dispersed peacefully. Reports said pro-freedom rallies were held in Binlipora, Khayar,

Lawaypora, Saderkoot Bala, Ashtengoo and Ajar villages. The rallies, however, culminated peacefully. Witnesses said clashes also erupted in Hajin town after Friday prayers.

CENTRAL KASHMIR

Clashes broke out at Beerwah, Narbal, Kawoosa areas of Budgam district in which five youth sustained injuries. In Beerwah, clashes erupted after Friday prayers in which two youth
sustained injuries. Mild clashes were reported from Kawoosa and Narbal. Clashes erupted at Ompora and Chadoora areas too.

Meanwhile, reports from Ganderbal said a complete shutdown was observed in the district while pro-freedom rallies were staged in Beehama. The protesters, however, were pushed

back. Locals said authorities didn't allow Friday congregational prayers in Jamia Masjid Beehama at main town Ganderbal for straight 13th Friday.

POLICE VERSION

According to a statement issued by the Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir, in view of the UN Chalo call given by “some separatist organizations and also the violence resorted to by miscreants on last few Fridays, curfew was imposed in few Police Stations of Srinagar city as a precautionary measure.” The statement said that during the day “eleven incidents of stone pelting were reported from Srinagar, Baramulla and Sopore. The situation remained under control and there was no report of any untoward incident. Meanwhile, continuing with its efforts to neutralize the activities of the miscreants and hooligans, 56 persons found involved in different crimes of creating public disorder have been arrested during the last 24 hours.”

காவிரி பிரச்சனை குறித்து விவாதிக்க கர்நாடக முதல்வர் சித்தராமையா தலைமையில் அனைத்துக் கட்சி கூட்டம் பெங்களூருவில் இன்று மாலை நடைபெற்றது. இந்த கூட்டத்திற்கு பிறகு, செய்தியாளர்களிடம் பேசிய சித்தராமைய்யா, உச்சநீதிமன்ற உத்தரவுப்படி காவிரியில் இருந்து கூடுதல் தண்ணீர் தமிழகத்திற்கு திறந்து விடப்படும் எனத் தெரிவித்தார். காவிரியில் 50 டி.எம்.சி. தண்ணீரை திறந்துவிடக் கோரி தமிழகம் தொடர்ந்த வழக்கை விசாரித்த உச்சநீதிமன்றம் தமிழகத்திற்கு விநாடிக்கு 15 ஆயிரம் கனஅடி வீதம் 10 நாட்களுக்கு கர்நாடகம் தண்ணீரை திறந்து விட வேண்டும் என்று நேற்று உத்தரவிட்டிருந்தது.

இதனைத் தொடர்ந்து கர்நாடக முதல்வர் சித்தராமையா பெங்களூருவில் நேற்று மூத்த அமைச்சர்களுடன் ஆலோசனை நடத்தினார். பின்னர் செய்தியாளர்களிடம் பேசிய அவர் அனைத்துக் கட்சி கூட்டம் இன்று மாலை நடைபெற இருப்பதாக கூறினார். அக்கூட்டத்தில் உச்சநீதிமன்ற உத்தரவு குறித்து ஆலோசிக்கப்பட்டு முடிவு எடுக்கப்படும் என்றார். தமிழகத்திற்கு தண்ணீர் திறக்க உச்சநீதிமன்றம் உத்தரவிட்டதில் இருந்தே கர்நாடகாவில் கடந்த 2 நாட்களாக பதற்றமான நிலை நீடித்து வருகிறது. பேருந்து போக்குவரத்தும் நிறுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளதால் பயணிகள் பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர். இயல்பு நிலை பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதனிடையே சித்தராமைய்யா தலைமையில் அனைத்துக்கட்சிக் கூட்டம் இன்று மாலை நடைபெற்றது.  இதில் சட்டப்பேரவை மற்றும் சட்டமேலவையின் அனைத்துக்கட்சித் தலைவர்கள், கர்நாடகத்தை சேர்ந்த மத்திய அமைச்சர்கள், மக்களவை மற்றும் மாநிலங்களவை உறுப்பினர்கள், கர்நாடக அமைச்சர்கள், காவிரி நதிநீர் படுகை மாவட்ட சட்டப்பேரவை உறுப்பினர்கள் உள்ளிட்டோர் பங்கேற்றனர்.

விவசாயத்துக்கும், பெங்களூரு மக்களின் குடிநீர் தேவைக்கும் தண்ணீர் வழங்க வேண்டியுள்ளது.  இதனை உச்சநீதிமன்றத்தின் கவனத்திற்கு கொண்டு செல்ல திருத்தப்பட்ட சீராய்வு மனு ஒன்றை நாளை தாக்கல் செய்ய இருக்கிறோம். 

இருப்பினும் உச்சநீதிமன்ற உத்தரவுப்படி இன்று இரவு காவிரியில் இருந்து தமிழகத்திற்கு தண்ணீர் திறந்து விடப்படும் எனத் தெரிவித்தார். முன்னதாக தண்ணீர் திறந்து விட எதிர்ப்புத் தெரிவித்து மாண்டியா மாவட்டத்தில் இன்று முழு கடை அடைப்பு போராட்டம் நடந்தது.

காவிரி பிரச்சனை தொடர்பாக சென்னை எழும்பூரில் அனைத்துக்கட்சி கூட்டம் நடைபெற்றது. விவசாயி சங்க ஒருங்கிணைப்பாளர் தெய்வசிகாமணி தலைமையில் கூட்டம் நடைபெற்றது. இந்தக் கூட்டத்தில் திமுக, காங்கிரஸ், பாஜக, தமாகா, மதிமுக, விசிக உள்ளிட்ட கட்சிகள் கூட்டத்தில் பங்கேற்றன. காவிரி மேலாண்மை வாரிய விவகாரத்தில் அடுத்து எடுக்க வேண்டிய நடவடிக்கை குறித்து ஆலோசனை நடைபெற்றது. கூட்டத்தில் இருந்து தமிழிசை சவுந்தரராஜன் பாதியிலேயே  வெளியேறியதால் பரபரப்பு ஏற்பட்டது.

சென்னை: காவிரி நதிநீர் பிரச்சனையில் சட்டப்படியான நடவடிக்கைகளை எடுக்கக்கோரி சென்னை தரமணி வளாகத்தில் பயிலும், டாக்டர் அம்பேத்கர் சட்டப் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் சீர்மிகு சட்டப்பள்ளி மாணவர்கள் அமைதி போராட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்டுள்ளனர்.
காவிரி நதி நீர் பிரச்சனையில் மத்திய அரசு தமிழகத்திற்கு எதிராக செயல்பட்டுக் கொண்டிருக்கிறது. சுப்ரீம் கோர்ட் காவிரி மேலாண்மை வாரியம் அமைக்க வேண்டும் என்று உத்தரவிட்டும் மத்திய அரசு அதனை அமைக்க மறுத்துள்ளது. மத்திய அரசின் கர்நாடக சார்பு போக்கைக் கண்டித்து தமிழக முழுவதும் போராட்டங்கள் நடைபெற்று வருகின்றன.

இந்நிலையில், காவிரி விவகாரத்தில் கர்நாடக அரசின் அரசியல் சாசன விரோதப்போக்கை கண்டித்து இன்று சட்டக் கல்லூரி மாணவர்கள் கையெழுத்துப் பேரணி நடத்தியுள்ளனர். அரசியல் சாசனப்பிரிவு 262-ன் கீழ் நாடாளுமன்றத்தில் விவாதம் நடத்தி காவிரி மேலாண்மை வாரியம் அமைக்க வேண்டும் என்றும் அதனை மத்திய அரசு உடனே செய்ய வேண்டும் என்றும் காவிரி முழக்கம் என்ற பெயரில் அமைதி போராட்டத்தை கடந்த 2 நாட்களாக சட்ட மாணவர்கள் நடத்தி வருகின்றனர்.

இந்த அமைதிப் போராட்டத்தின் ஒரு அங்கமாக, கடந்த இரண்டு நாட்களாக நீலநிற ரிப்பன் பட்டைகளை அணிந்து கல்லூரி வகுப்புகளில் மாணவர்கள் பங்கேற்கின்றனர்.

தொடர்ந்து 3 நாட்களாக நடைபெறும் இந்தப் போராட்டத்தின் கடைசி நாளான இன்று காவிரி பிரச்சனைத் தொடர்பான வாதங்களை சமூகத்திடம் கொண்டு சேர்க்கும் வகையில், மாணவர்கள் கையெழுத்து பேரணி நடத்தியுள்ளனர். தமிழகத்தின் நியாயமான, சட்டப்படியான கோரிக்கைகளை இந்திய பிரதமருக்கும், தமிழக கவர்னருக்கும், சுப்ரீம் கோர்ட் தலைமை நீதிபதிக்கும் மற்றும் கர்நாடக முதலமைச்சருக்கும் தபால் மூலம் சட்டக் கல்லூரி மாணவர்கள் அனுப்ப உள்ளனர்.

காவிரி கழகப் போராட்டம்.

காவிரியில் தமிழகத்தின் உரிமையை நிலை நாட்ட கழகம் தொடர்ந்து போராடிவருகின்றது. மன்மோகன் ஆட்சிக்காலத்தில் Thursday, 8 March 2012 `முல்லைப் பெரியாற்றில் தமிழகத்தின் உரிமையைப் பாதுகாப்போம்`! என்கிற நூலை வெளியிட்டது. இந்நூலானது காவிரி நதி நீர்ப் பிரச்சனையை இயங்கியல் பொருள்முதல்வாத மார்க்சிய நோக்கு நிலையில் ஆய்வு செய்த நூலாகும்.

International organisations have issued warned that life in Gaza on brink of collapse due to effects of the oppressive Israeli siege, which is regarded a collective punishment and illegal in international law.
Experts warn if the siege of Gaza continues, normal life would not be viable in the territory in 2016

Days of Palestine, Gaza Strip –It has been ten years for the strict, harsh and inhumane Israeli, Egyptian and internationally backed blockade on the Gaza Strip.

The blockade started in the wake of the 2006 Palestinian elections, which the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, won with an overwhelming majority.

Local and international monitoring organisations described the Palestinian poll as one of the most transparent ever recorded. However, Palestinians remember it with sadness as the elections marked the internal political split and the start of the siege of Gaza.

The Israeli occupation closed all crossings into the territory, keeping only the Erez Crossing open for occasional pedestrian traffic and Kerem Shalom for a few classified and highly-regulated goods. Erez has been used a trap for people trying to cross.

Egypt has been keeping the Rafah Crossing closed for most of the time. In 2015, the crossing was only open for 21 days; just 10,000 Palestinians were allowed through, among them pilgrims, patients and students.

The Israeli authorities imposed severe restrictions on patients and their companions travelling through Erez. Human rights groups have recorded the arrest of several patients or their companions while using the crossing into the occupied Palestine.

Attempts are made by the Israeli occupation intelligence agents to blackmail people into becoming informers in exchange for being allowed to cross.

Palestinian ministry of health in Gaza has since been reporting chronic shortages of medicines and hospital disposables. “Shelves are empty due to the restrictions imposed by the Israelis on people and goods going in and out of the coastal enclave,” MOH spokesman says.

Attempt to break the siege

The plight of the Palestinians in Gaza has aroused widespread popular support across the world and many attempts have been made to break the siege by sea.

Although a few small boats made the trip in the first few years, later and more ambitious attempts were stopped in international waters by the Israeli navy, often violently.

In May, 2010, for example, the Israeli commandos intercepted the Freedom Flotilla. Nine Turkish citizens were killed in the assault and a number of others were wounded; one died in 2014 as a direct result of his wounds. The ships were towed into and Israeli port and everyone on board was arrested.

During the siege, the Israeli occupation has launched four major military offensives against the people of Gaza, in 2006, 2008/9, 2012 and 2014; the latter was the most destructive. It lasted for 51 days and whole areas of Gaza were flattened by Israeli bombs; tens of thousands of people were displaced.

The strict siege and wars have shattered the Palestinian economy in Gaza, economic commentator Maher al-Tabaa told Quds Press. “The unemployment rate in Gaza stands at 42 per cent, with the blockade deepening the economic crisis,” he explained.

According to the International Monetary Fund, the unemployment rate in Gaza is the highest in the world and there are more than 200,000 unemployed people in Gaza.

Al-Tabaa warned that if the siege of Gaza continues, normal life would not be viable in the territory in 2016.

Many international organisations have issued similar warnings due to the effects of the oppressive Israeli measures, which are regarded as collective punishment and are illegal in international law.

Life remained affected on Wednesday in Kashmir on the 89th consecutive day of shutdown called by the resistance leadership.
