6 reasons Russia and Turkey will struggle to become strategic partners

The Russian-Turkish rapprochement obtained during the Aug. 9 summit in St. Petersburg must not engender unrealistic expectations and excessive illusions. There are still many problems and serious contradictions in relations between Moscow and Ankara for there to be, as some commentators are already saying, a "strategic alliance" between Russia and Turkey.

1. Syria

The primary problem is the diametrically opposed position of the sides on the Syrian conflict. Russian President Vladimir Putin is supporting Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad while Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is trying to have him overthrown. In this sense nothing has changed.

Ankara also has not stopped backing Syrian opposition units, those who are now advancing on Aleppo and who are being bombed by Russia's air force. We should not forget that it was the contradiction on Syria that had led to an unprecedented crisis in bilateral relations after the downing of the Russian bomber in November 2015. These contradictions persist.

2. The Kurds

The second problem is also related to the Syrian civil war – the Kurds. For Ankara the Kurdish units in Syria who are fighting with the Islamist radicals are opponents, separatists and accomplices of the "terrorists" from the Kurdistan Workers' Party, against which Erdogan is waging a war. For Moscow the Syrian Kurds are potential allies. Moscow has also traditionally had special relations with the Turkish Kurds, whom it does not consider enemies.

3. Nagorno-Karabakh

The third problem is related to the ongoing Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh, now in its third decade. With all its measured statements and equidistance, Moscow is perceived in the world as Armenia's potential ally, since they are both members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. As for Turkey, it does not even try to show objectivity and impartiality. Ankara is unequivocally on Baku's side.

4. Competition in the CIS

The fourth problem concerns the post-Soviet space. Ankara has good relations with the Turkic republics of the former USSR (besides Azerbaijan, there is Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan) and for Moscow is thus a geopolitical competitor. A special and painful issue is Turkey's penetration into the "brotherly" Turkish-language republics of the Russian Federation.

5. Anti-Kremlin elements in Turkey

The fifth problem regards the fact that organizations that are openly hostile to Moscow (Crimean Tatars and those from the North Caucasus) are active on Turkish territory without any restrictions. They are supported by many influential diasporas. Therefore, even if he wanted to remove this irritant in relations with Russia, Erdogan would encounter serious opposition inside his country.

6. Lack of trust

The sixth problem is the crisis in trust. Moscow no longer publicly speaks about the incident with the downed Russian plane. But it has not been forgotten. Just like the hostile statements made by Turkish officials, including Erdogan, immediately after the incident have also not been forgotten. It would have been strange if after the destruction of the Su-24 Moscow had not come to certain conclusions about the Turkish government's reliability and predictability.

Finally, there is a seventh problem: the current rapprochement, in a significant way, is forced. The West perceives Moscow, and as of recently Ankara, cautiously; it is distancing itself from them. In such a situation the attempt to find an alternative partner and break out of international isolation seems completely natural. At the same time there is no certainty that Turkey, if its relations with the US and EU normalize, will continue cooperation with Russia and realize such projects as the Turkish Stream.

That is why we should not speak about a strategic partnership between Moscow and Ankara yet. It would be better to speak of its imitation. However, in comparison to the state of an imminent armed conflict that we saw half a year ago, the current reconciliation is great progress. It gives hope that the sides are trying to solve at least some of the above-mentioned problems.

Bloodbath continued in Kashmir as forces shot dead five more civilians including two teenagers on Tuesday—four in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district and one in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district—while at least 70 people were injured in day-long clashes in several areas. The condition of two injured youth is stated to be critical. With five more deaths, the toll has climbed to 65 in a span of 39 days while the number of injured has touched 6000. Of total injured, 500 have sustained grave pellet injuries in their eyes and are on the verge of losing their eye-sight, according to medicos.
Locals said on August 15, dozens of people took to streets in Aripanthan village of Beerwah tehsil of Budgam district to protest the alleged atrocities of forces. Locals told Greater Kashmir that forces broke windowpanes of many houses in the area without any provocation.

“Actually, some youth had pushed back SDM Budgam who had come to participate in official August 15 function yesterday. Perhaps, to take the revenge, forces created fear-psychosis among people by resorting to damaging of residential houses in the evening,” a group of locals alleged.
Things turned ugly on Tuesday morning (August 16) when locals of Aripanthan village went to nearby check-post to buy newspapers and in the meantime, some forces’ vehicles passed by. “Some forces personnel disembarked from their vehicles to clear the road where youth had placed big rocks to prevent the forces’ movement in the area,” witnesses said.

They said forces resorted to indiscriminate firing on people in which four persons sustained serious bullet injuries.

Witnesses said a civilian Muhammad Ashraf Wani, 35, s/o Ghulam Muhammad of Hazarpora, was looking for his child when a bullet hit him. “He died on the spot,” they said. “As the forces resorted to firing, all people laid themselves on ground.”

The witnesses said the forces fired at those who were walking at distance from the site where their vehicles were located. “12 more youth and a woman sustained bullet injuries of which two died on the spot while another one was shifted to SKIMS Bemina along with others,” they said.

The two other civilians who also died on the spot were identified as 25-year-old Javaid Ahmed Sheikh s/o Ghulam Rasool and Javaid Ahmed Najar, 19, S/o Ghulam Rasool.  The third one was brought dead to SKIMS Bemina, hospital sources said, and identified the slain as 25-year-old Manzoor Ahmed Lone s/o Muhammad Akbar. Locals said all the three slain civilians hailed from Aripanthan village of Beerwah Tehsil.

Block Medical Officer Beerwah said three youth were brought dead to Beerwah hospital. Locals said the situation in Arpanthan and Beerwah was tense as people in hundreds hit the streets to take part in funeral prayers of the four slain youth. They said people from dozens of villages that include Khag, Beerwah, Adina, Magam and others marched towards Aripanthan to join the prayers.

Reports meanwhile said the condition of two youth injured at Aripanthan—Touqeer Ahmed and Farooq Ahmed—is critical and they both are battling for life at SKIMS Soura.

‘ARMY BEATS PEOPLE TO PULP’

Reports said at least 35 people were allegedly beaten to pulp by Army in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. The Army, however, refuted the allegations, claiming that they resorted to aerial firing only when their vehicles were stoned at Kurhama and Baroosa areas.  Officials at Primary Health Centre Lar and District Hospital Ganderbal confirmed that injured were brought there for treatment. “Most of the injured had bone fractures and swelling due to beating,” they said.
Reports said late evening protests were witnessed in Baroosa and other areas of Ganderbal district.  Some injured were also shifted to PHC Wakoora.

At Manigam, hundreds of women took out a pro-freedom rally that culminated peacefully. Reports said a candle march was also held in Kangan area.

SOUTH KASHMIR

As Kashmir was mourning the death of four civilians in Budgam, the Army shot dead a 15-year-old-boy at Larkipora in Dooru area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Witnesses said locals were protesting against the alleged atrocities by Army in the area. “The Army had entered into the residential houses and broke windowpanes of dozens of houses. The atrocities triggered protests followed by clashes,” they said.

“The Army resorted to indiscriminate firing in which a boy Amir Yousuf Ganai, 15, s/o Muhammad Yousuf of Naidpora, Larkipora sustained a bullet injury. He was brought dead to district hospital Anantnag.”

Four others also sustained bullet injuries in the Army firing while seven others were beaten and then hospitalized.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, the Army admitted that the boy got killed in firing by its soldiers. “We regret the killing of a local boy. The Army men came under heavy stone pelting at Larkipora, forcing us to resort to firing. The killing is unfortunate,” an army official said.

Reports said clashes and protests erupted against the killing of the boy at Larkipora where protestors set ablaze the house of a local Sajad Ahmed, who works with Army.   Locals said Sajad was part of soldiers who allegedly resorted to ransacking of residential houses in the area.

Reports said Army also allegedly broke windowpanes of many houses in Dialgam village.
Massive protests erupted at Anantnag district late in the evening. Locals said earlier in the day, strict curbs were in place across the town.

Protests were going on in Pampore area of Pulwama district, when this report was filed.

In Tral, reports said, people took out series of pro-freedom rallies in various places. Clashes were reported from Muran Chowk Pulwama while a protest march was held from Ganaipora to Batpora in Shopian where forces intercepted the rally near an Army camp and resorted to tear-gas shelling. Late night reports said protests were also held in Bijbehara, Koimoh, Khudwani, Redwani and other villages of Anantnag and Kulgam districts.

SRINAGAR

Stringent curbs were in place across Srinagar with spools of concertina wire placed on all the main roads. Police had blocked all main roads in city centre near Jehangir Chowk, Ghanta Ghar, Residency Road, Dalgate, Rajbagh and other areas.

Similar restrictions were in place across old Srinagar. “They (forces) didn’t even allow ambulances to move,” a doctor who was waiting for a vehicle to reach SMHS hospital said.

Witnesses said heavy deployment was in place in uptown and old city areas to prevent pro-freedom rallies from taking place.

Reports said late evening clashes were reported from Lasjan, Soiteng, Batamaloo, Bemina, Chattabal, Rajouri Kadal, Saraf Kadal, Nowhatta, Safa Kadal, Kaka Sarai, and other areas of the city. Reports of torch processions being held poured in from Nowgam area. Similar reports came in from Hyderpora and Rambagh areas.

NORTH KASHMIR

An all-women protest rally was taken out in Ajas area of Bandipora district. The rally marched through all big and small roads, lanes and by-lanes.

Amid pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the protesters demanded an immediate end to civilian killings in Kashmir. The rally concluded peacefully.

Meanwhile, people staged a peaceful protest at Gulshan Chowk and Nowpora Chowk of the district. A complete shutdown was observed amid the strict curfew for the 39th consecutive day in Sumbal and Hajin areas of the district. Reports said night protests were witnessed in Onangam, Kaloosa, Batpora, Nowpora, and other areas of Bandipore district while clashes were reported from Kaloosa and Nathpora areas.

Reports said in Baramulla district, strict curbs were in place while clashes were reported from Azadgunj and Palhallan areas in the evening.

In Sopore, people, including traders’ community staged a peaceful sit-in against the civilian killings.
Reports of evening clashes poured in from Batpora, Arampora, Tujjar Sharief, main chowk, Krankshivan and other areas of Sopore.

Reports said clashes were witnessed in Lalpora, (Lolab), Sogam, Takipora, and other areas. A peaceful protest was held in Kupwara and Handwara towns against the civilian killings. Reports said an all-women rally was held in Kupwara town that ended peacefully.

அவுஸ்ரேலிய புள்ளிவிபரப் பிரிவினால் தேசிய சனத்தொகைக் கணக்கெடுப்பு இணையத்தளம் மூலம் நடத்தப்பட்டு வருகிறது.

இதில்,' பிறந்த நாடு' என்ற கேள்விக்கான பதில்களில் பல்வேறு அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட்ட மற்றும் அங்கீகரிக்கப்படாத நாடுகள் வரிசைப்படுத்தப்பட்டிருந்தன. அதில் தமிழீழமும் உள்ளடக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது.

இதனால் அவுஸ்ரேலியாவில் உள்ள ஈழத் தமிழர்கள் தமிழீழம் என்று தமது பிறந்த இடத்தை குறிப்பிடத் தொடங்கினர்.

இதையடுத்து, கடந்த 6ஆம் ,7ஆம் நாள்களில், கன்பராவில் உள்ள இலங்கைத் தூதரகத்துக்கு பெருமளவு தொலைபேசி அழைப்புகளும், மின்னஞ்சல்களும் வரத் தொடங்கின.

வாரஇறுதி விடுமுறைக்குப் பின்னர், முதலாவது வேலை நாளான கடந்த 9ஆம் நாள், கன்பராவில் உள்ள இலங்கைத்  தூதரகம் துரித நடவடிக்கையில் இறங்கியது.

அவுஸ்ரேலிய வெளிவிவகார மற்றும் வர்த்தக திணைக்களத்திடமும், அவுஸ்ரேலிய புள்ளிவிபரவியல் பிரிவிடமும் எதிர்ப்புத் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டது.

தமிழீழம் என்ற பதம், அவுஸ்ரேலிய அரசின் அதிகாரபூர்வ இணையத்தளத்தில் இடம்பெற்றிருப்பதை ஏற்றுக் கொள்ள முடியாது என்றும் அவர் குறிப்பிட்டார்.

இந்த நிலையில் அவுஸ்ரேலிய வெளிவிவகார அமைச்சு தமிழீழத்தை நீக்குவதாக கடந்த 9ஆம் நாள் இலங்கை தூதுவருக்கு உறுதி அளித்தது, இதற்கமைய அன்று பிற்பகல் 2.30 மணியளவில், தமிழீழம் நீக்கப்பட்டது.

Memorials of Tamils who were killed during their struggle against the Sri Lanka government must be rebuilt, said members of the Tamil public at a zonal hearing of the government’s public Consultation Task Force on reconciliation in Vadamarachchi, Jaffna, according to the Tamil Guardian.

"All memorials built to honour the Tamils who fought and sacrificed their lives in their struggle for freedom had been demolished", the members of the group said. "The building of Sri Lankan army camps over the demolished tombs of Tamil freedom fighters added further pain to the Tamil people," they said.

"How can one talk about reconciliation whilst standing over the corpses of people who were just fighting for their freedom?" asked one of them.

Another one added, "Tamils should have the liberty to pay homage to their loved ones who sacrificed their lives for their cause."

Further calls were made for ensuring freedom to build a new monument in memory of the people who lost their lives during the final stages of the war.

The meeting that Russia’s President Vladimir Putin held with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Saint Petersburg has nearly attracted as much media attention as the Rio Olympics.

Erdogan arrived in Saint Petersburg during the afternoon hours of August 9, and the initial talks were immediately followed by negotiations with various ministers, along with a press conference, after which the two leaders met with the representatives of Russian and Turkish business circles.

The meeting had more than 200 members of the media present, crowding the massive press center provided to them. The Turkish media called it a “massive surprise” that Erdogan brought a number of ministers along with him, including Minister of Tourism and Culture of Turkey Nabi Avci, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Livestock Faruk Çelik, as well as the Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey, Mehmet Simsek. Erdogan was also accompanied by the head of the National intelligence Organization, Hakan Fidan, whose presence among the delegation was described by Turkish media sources as “truly unexpected.”

However, even before Erdogan’s plane touched down in Saint Petersburg, various media sources rushed to provide their assessment.

In Turkey, all newspapers and sites without exception emphasized the importance of this visit for the further development of the Turkish economy, which has suffered a massive blow since Russia introduced travel and trading restrictions in the aftermath of the downing of Russia’s Su-24 over Syria. Journalists have been expressing hopes for a stable union of the two states being reestablished along with greater cooperation in regional security matters, including the fight against terrorism, extremism and organized crime.

Certain analysts stressed the fact that the meeting between Erdogan and Putin is a new milestone in the struggle between the Atlantic and Eurasia. It is important not only in terms of the future of Turkish-Russian relations, but also in terms of reforming the international system, the formation of a new world focused on the Middle East, North Africa and Eurasia.

Those analysts are convinced that the West is terrified by the prospects of Turkey abandoning all cooperation with the US, the EU and NATO and becoming a part of another block of international players.

According to the German magazine Spiegel, what we’re witnessing is a stressful development for the West, since Erdogan has been criticizing Berlin, Vienna and Washington on a daily basis in the aftermath of the failed coup, all while speaking highly of Moscow, referring to Putin as “my dear friend Vladimir.”

The Turkish media source Haber7 has been vocal in criticizing NATO and its states. It would note that NATO is a bag of snakes, a gang of bandits created in the name of protecting Washington’s interests. The North Atlantic alliance has been used by the West to suppress the weaker states of Asia, Africa, South America, all in a bid to make obedient servants out of them. NATO is the main sponsor and mastermind behind revolutions and armed coups in Muslim countries and the countries of the third world. Haber7 notes that unless Turkey and the Islamic countries create their own defense organization, they would be unable to evade the pressure, the threats, and the meddling of NATO’s forces of evil. There is no Communist threat, no Soviet Union anymore, the media source argues, so what is the reason for NATO’s continued existence?

The change of Turkey’s standing in its relations with the West has been noted by Tayyip Erdogan in an interview with the French Le Monde. Turkey’s President noted that instead of solidarity with Turkey, and instead defending democratic principles, the West chose to abandon Ankara. He stated that Turkey is saddened by the fact that John Kerry arrived in Ankara 45 days after the failed coup, which indicates that Washington has abandoned its strategic ally.

The Financial Times, in turn, would stress the fact that a few hours after the visit of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff,Joseph Dunford to Turkey, Erdogan made a particularly harsh statement that shocked the West, when he stated that there’s no way the US could be Turkey’s strategic partner, if it fails to extradite the man acting against Turkey’s interests (a reference to Fethullah Gülen).

The German Focus notes that the pact of friendship between Putin and Erdogan can seriously shift the balance of power in the world. Should Turkey side with Russia on all matters, the West will be crashed. German journalists note that the United States won’t be able to tolerate this fact. For instance, the Wall Street Journal notes that the restoration of bilateral relations between Turkey and Russia, take Erdogan and Putin further away from the West.

Following the talks, the two leaders adopted a number of decisions aimed at facilitating the development of bilateral relations, in particular on the preparation of a medium-term program of economic, scientific and technical cooperation until 2019. The construction of the first string of the “Turkish stream” pipeline may begin in the near future as well.

There’s no doubt that the meeting between Erdogan and Putin will bring the two states closer together, even though the West has been terrified by the possibility of this development all along. And the reason for that was short-sighted Western policy, pursuing confrontation along with the neglect Washington has shown to both Turkey and Russia.

தமிழீழ விடுதலை புலிகள் அமைப்பின் போராளிகளின் திடீர் மரணங்கள்தொடர்பான சர்ச்சைகள் எழுந்துள்ள நிலையில் மேலும் ஒரு முன்னாள் போராளி திடீரெனகாய்ச்சலால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டு யாழ்.போதனா வைத்தியசாலையில் சிகிச்சை பெற்றுவந்தநிலையில் உயிரிழந்துள்ளார்.

பூநகரியை சேர்ந்த நடராஜா கலியுகராஜா (54வயது) என்பவரே 7 ம் திகதி காலை இவ்வாறு உயிரிழந்துள்ளார்.

இந்நிலையில் இது தொடர்பாக மேலும் தெரியவருவதாவது,

குறித்த நபர் ``புனர்வாழ்வளிக்கப்பட்டு`` விடுதலை செய்யப்பட்டிருந்தார். இந்நிலையில்கடந்த மாதம் 24ம் திகதி இவருக்கு காய்ச்சல் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது.

இதனையடுத்து இவரைபூநகரி ஆதார வைத்தியசாலையில் சிகிச்சைக்காக அனுமதித்திருந்தனர். பின்னர்அங்கிருந்து கிளிநொச்சி வைத்தியசாலைக்கு மாற்றப்பட்டிருந்தார்.

இருந்த போதிலும் காய்ச்சலின் தீவிர தன்மை காரணமாக அங்கிருந்து 27ம் திகதியாழ்.போதனா வைத்தியசாலைக்கு மாற்றப்பட்டிருந்தார்.

இந்நிலையில் கடந்த 7ம் திகதி சிகிச்சை பலனின்றி உயிரிழந்திருந்தார்.

இந்நிலையில் இம் மரணம் தொடர்பாக யாழ்.போதனா வைத்தியசாலையின் தீடீர் மரணவிசாரணை அதிகாரி நமசிவாயம் பிறேம்குமார் மரண விசராணையை மேற்கொண்டிருந்தார்.

இதேவேளை இவரது காச்சலின் வகை தொடர்பாகவோ அதன் தீவிர தன்மை தொடர்பாகவோஉறவினர்களுக்கு தெரியப்படுத்தப்படாத நிலையிலேயே இவர் உயிரிழந்துள்ளார்.

இம் மரணம் தொடர்பான மரண விசாரணைகளை ந.பிரேம்குமார் மேற்கொண்டதன் பின்னர் சடலம்உறவினர்களிடம் ஒப்படைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

Aug 09, 2016 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s exports fell 12 percent to 776.3 million US dollars in May 2016, while imports rose 0.3 percent to 1,589.8 million US dollars from a year earlier, official data showed.

The trade gap has widened 15.7 percent to 813.5 million US dollars from a year earlier.

The subdued performance in tea exports, rubber products and textiles and garments contributed mainly to the overall decline in export earnings, the Central Bank said.

Average export price of tea has decreased by 5.3 percent to 4.24 US dollars per kilogram owing to lower demand from the Middle East and Russia while export volume also declined by 23.0 percent to 21.26 million kilograms.

Cumulative earnings from exports during the first five months of 2016 contracted by 6.0 percent to 4,211 million US dollars largely due to a reduction in export earnings from transport equipment, petroleum products, tea and spices.

The leading markets for merchandise exports of Sri Lanka during the first five months of 2016 were the USA, UK, India, Germany and Italy, accounting for about 54 percent of the total exports.

Expenditure on imports grew marginally in May largely contributed by the significant increase registered in import expenditure on investment goods, despite the decline recorded in consumer goods and intermediate goods imports.

On a cumulative basis, expenditure on imports during the first five months of 2016 contracted by 2.8 percent to 7,645 million US dollars, mainly due to the declines recorded in fuel, transport equipment and rice imports.

China, India, Japan, Singapore and UAE were the main import origins during the first five months of 2016, which accounted for about 56 percent of total imports.

During the first five months of 2016, the overall BOP is estimated to have recorded a deficit of 1,142.3 million US dollars in comparison to a deficit of 1,307.4 million US dollars recorded during the corresponding period of 2015.

வடக்கின் நான்கு மாவட்டங்களில் நல்லிணக்கப் பொறிமுறை தொடர்பில் மக்கள் கருத்தறியும் அமர்வுகள் நடைபெற்றிருந்தன. அவற்றில் பங்கேற்று மக்கள் தங்கள் கருத்துக்களைத் தெரிவித்து வருகின்றனர். அவ்வகையில் ஒட்டிசுட்டானில் நடைபெற்ற மக்கள் கருத்தறியும் அமர்வில் பங்கேற்ற முன்னாள் போராளி ஒருவரே இவ்வாறு சாட்சியமளித்துள்ளார்.

அங்கு அவர் மேலும் தெரிவிக்கையில்–

இறுதிப்போரின்போது பலர் சரணடைந்திருந்தனர். இது தொடர்பாக பல செய்திகள் உள்ளன. ஆனால் மக்கள் இவ்விடையம் தொடர்பாக கதைக்கப் பயப்படுகின்றார்கள். இதைக் கதைக்கப்போனால் எமக்கு பாதுகாப்பு உத்தரவாதம் இல்லை. தாம் ஒருவரையும் கொல்லவில்லை என்கிறார்கள் அவ்வாறாயின் அங்கு சென்றவர்கள் எல்லாம் நஞ்சு அருந்தியா இறந்தார்கள்.

கோழியைப் பிடித்து சாப்பிட்டவனிடம் எங்கள் கோழியைக் கண்டீரோ என எவ்வாறு கேட்க முடியும். அவன் எங்களிற்கு நீதியைத் தரப்போவதில்லை. எங்கள் தமிழ் அரசியல கட்சிகள் கூட பெல்டி அடிச்சுக்கொண்டு இருக்கிறாங்கள். கண்டிப்பா சர்வதேசத்தில் இருந்து நடுநிலமையான நாடுகள் தான் எமக்கு நீதியை வழங்கவேண்டும்.

கிரேசிமா நாகசாயி வரலாற்றை எடுத்துக்கொண்டால் கூட கண்டிப்பா இன்றைக்கும் அமெரிக்காவிற்கு இழுக்குத்தான்.

எங்கண்ட விரலை வெட்டிப்போட்டு தம்பி தெரியாம வெட்டீட்டன் நான் அம்பு வில்லு தாறன் உன்னை பாதுகாக்க என கூறுவது போலத்தான் அரசின் செயற்பாடுகள் இருக்கின்றன.

விடுதலைப் புலிகள் இவ்வாறான வேலையைச் செய்யவில்லை. யுத்த தர்மம் என்று ஒன்று உள்ளது. ஸ்ரீலங்கா அரசாங்க இராணுவத்திற்கு யுத்த தர்மத்தைப் பற்றி கடைசிவரை போதிக்க வேண்டும்.

சரணடையப்போறவங்களைச் சுடுவது நியாமமில்லை. ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் நிராயுதபாணிகள்.

நான் ஒரு முனைநாள் போராளி. தடுப்பால வந்த பிறகு நாங்கள் யுத்தங்களை விட்டு ஒதுங்கி இருக்கிறம். சொன்னாலும் சொல்லாட்டாலும் உவங்கள் எங்களிற்கு இரசாயண உணவுகளைத் தந்திருக்கிறாங்கள் என்பது எங்களிற்கு விளங்குகின்றது.

நான் முன்பு 100 கிலோ தூக்கி எத்தினயோ கிலோமீற்றர் ஓடுற எனக்கு ஒரு பொருளைக்கூட தூக்க முடியவில்லை. கண் பார்வை குறைகின்றது. எங்களிற்கு ஏதோ நடந்திருக்கிறது என்பது மட்டும் விழங்குகின்றது.

ஏன் தடுப்பு மருந்து முழுப்பேருக்கும் ஏற்றினவங்கள். ஊசியைக் கொண்டுவந்து போடுவாங்கள். என்ன தடுப்பிற்காக ஏற்றினார்கள் என்று எமக்குத் தெரியாது. ஊசி ஏற்றிய அன்று மாலையே ஒரு போராளி இறந்துவிட்டார்.

அங்கு என்ன என்ன நடந்தது என்று எங்களிற்கு மட்டும்தான் தெரியும். நாங்கள் தலைவரின் உப்பைச் சாப்பிட்டு வளர்ந்தவர்கள். கருணா மாறினாலும் நாங்கள் மாறவில்லை. நாங்கள் உணர்வோடு தான் இருக்கின்றோம் என்றும் அவர் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

திருகோணமலை மொராவ கன்புலம் கிராமத்தைச் சேர்ந்த நான்கு பிள்ளைகளின் தந்தையாரான பேரின்பராசா தனபாலசிங்கம் வயது 40 என்ற முன்னால் போராளி கடந்த 02/08/2016 செவ்வாய்க்கிழமை மர்மமாக மரணமடைந்துள்ளார் என்று அறியப்படுகிறது மேலும் இச்சம்பவம் பற்றி அறியவருவதாவது

கடந்த 29/07/2016 அன்று தனது மோட்டார் சைக்கிளில் பயணிக்கும் போது சிறிய விபத்துக்குள்ளானார் என்றும் திருகோணமலை வைத்தியசாலையில் சிகிச்சைப்பெற்று சுகத்துடன் வீட்டிற்கு சென்றதுடன் பின்னர் 01/08/2016 அன்று திடீரென தனது தலையில் விறைப்புத்தன்மை காணப்படுவதாக கூறி மீண்டும் திருகோணமலை வைத்தியசாலையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டு பின்னர் அநுராதபுரம் தேசிய வைத்தியசாலைக்கு மாற்றப்பட்டதுடன் சத்திரசிகிச்சை மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டு அவசரசிகிச்சைப் பிரிவில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டிருந்த வேளையிலேயே மரணமாகியுள்ளார்.


மேலும் இவர் 1990களில் விடுதலைப்புலிகள் அமைப்பில் இணைந்து ஈழ விடுதலைக்காக போராடினார் என்பதுடன் கடந்த 2013 புனர்வாழ்வுபெற்று விடுதலையாகினார் என்பதும் குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

Mysterious deaths of ex-LTTE cadres create unease in North Sri Lanka

COLOMBO: A series of mysterious deaths reportedly occurring among former Tamil Tiger cadres who had been rehabilitated and released into society is creating unease in Sri Lanka’s Tamil-majority Northern Province.

According to the Tamil media, 105 former members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) have so far died mysteriously, allegedly after being injected with a drug when they were undergoing post-war ‘rehabilitation’ in Sri Lankan army run camps.

The deaths, allegedly due to poisoning, came to light when an ex-cadre reportedly told the Sri Lankan government’s ethnic reconciliation committee at a recent sitting in Oddusuddan, that he had been injected with a drug which has disabled him. He told the committee that while in the LTTE he could  carry heavy weights and run, but now he finds it difficult to lift even 10 kg. Other ex-cadres had also been given mysterious injections, he said.

With the media reporting 105 deaths, some due to cancer, T.Ravikaran, Northern Provincial Council (NPC) member for Mullaitivu district, and former Tamil National Alliance MP, Suresh Pramachandran demanded that all the ex-cadres who had undergone rehabilitation be examined by a team of foreign doctors as Sri Lankan government doctors could be biased.

“Members of the ex-cadres families are very apprehensive since the news came out. I have therefore decided to move a resolution on this issue at the NPC on August 9. I spoke to Chief Minister Wigneswaran about this and he said he would also place some facts before the Council.

The provincial Health Minister Dr.Sathyalingam has promised to get the ex-cadres medically examined. The Sri Lankan Health Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne told the media that the Health Ministry is ready to conduct a health survey of the ex-cadres. But military spokesman Brig.Jayanath Jayaweera trashed the story that the ex-cadres were administered a poisonous drug during the rehabilitation process.

A leader of the TNA told Express that since nobody has an authentic figure of deaths nor information about the cause of deaths, the party is investigating.

“We do not want to comment on it without having the facts. In a few days we may be able to say something based on facts. We cannot automatically accept any figure that may be touted now,” the leader said.

The only authentic case of an ex-cadre dying of a disease got during rehabilitation is that of the LTTE’s political wing leader, Thamilini. She was diagnosed as a cancer victim while she was in a rehabilitation camp and was treated at the government cancer hospital at Maharagama. But despite the best efforts of her Sinhalese doctors, she died. She acknowledged the service rendered by these doctors in her posthumously published Tamil biography, Oru Koovaalin Nizhalil (In The Shadow Of A Sharp Sword).
