30 வருடங்களாக நாட்டில் நிலவிய யுத்தத்தை முடிவுக்கு கொண்டுவந்து சமாதானத்தை நிலைநாட்டியமை மற்றும் பொருளாதார, சமூக அபிவிருத்திகள் தொடர்பில் இலங்கை அரசு முன்னெடுத்த நடவடிக்கைகள் குறித்து பாப்பரசர் 16ஆவது பெனடிக் அவர்களுக்கும் ஜனாதிபதி
மஹிந்த ராஜபக்ஷவுக்கும் இடையில் கலந்துரையாடப்பட்டதாக வத்திக்கான் தகவல்கள் தெரிவிக்கின்றன.

இலங்கையிலுள்ள பிரச்சினைகள் தொடர்பில் அனைத்து தரப்பினரதும் சட்டரீதியான எதிர்ப்பார்ப்புக்களை நிறைவேற்றிக் கொடுப்பதற்கான துரித நடவடிக்கைகள் எடுக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்பதும் அதற்கு ஒன்றிணைந்த முயற்சி தேவைப்படும் என்பதும் பாப்பரசரின் எதிர்ப்பார்ப்பாக
காணப்படுவதாக தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

இலங்கை மக்களின் வாழ்வை வளப்படுத்தவதற்காக சமயம், கல்வி, கலாசாரம், சுகாதாரம் உள்ளிட்ட அனைத்து விடயங்களிலும் பங்களிப்பு செய்வதாகவும் பாப்பரசர் இதன்போது உறுதியளித்துள்ளார்.

Pope meets with president of Sri Lanka, addresses post-war reconciliation

It was about three years ago, when roughly 100,000 civilians died during Sri Lanka's civil war. Most of them, were from the ethnic group Tamil. On Friday,  Benedict XVI met with Sri Lanka's president
at the Vatican. During the meeting, he asked the president to 'quickly' reach an agreement to promote reconciliation.

This is the second time president Mahinda Rajapaksa has visited the Vatican, but it's his first visit after the end of the civil war, which struck from 1983 to 2009.

The president explained some of the measures being implemented to improve 'social development and reconciliation' in the country.

Once again, the Pope asked him to address the 'legitimate aspirations of all parties'

The president visited the Vatican accompanied by his Catholic wife. As a gift, he gave the Pope a vase with spices from Sri Lanka, and another vase made of silver.
